thanks, i know that fuel leaking is a symptom, hence the fuel smell. But are there any other symptoms, such as loss of boost, fluctuating idle, backfiring, running rich?

Nope. Just fuel smell and catastrophic engine fires, AFAIK.

If the nipple in the center (rubber) is gone, the heat has taken it's toll, and since you've allready taken off the manifold to look at it, do it right and swap that sucker out... while you're at it, look at the Primary Injectors, and see if they're baked as well ... if they are time for a swap...

From what I've seen on my 2 FD's they need swapping every 60k like a timing belt on traditional piston engines... and concidering injector parts costs, are about as expensive...

thats ture, the primary injectors and the fpd need to be changed every 60k miles.... the secondaries on the other hand can be used about 150k with no problems!

also, if you are near the primaries and the pfd, change them because its easier to do them when everything is out!

since you say i woiuld be running lean........its does not sound like a bad FPD, but more like a bad injector. My car is running very rich, could this be a injector stuck open feeding to much fuel to the combustion.

Good or bad, you may as well change it...Just $99 from Mazdaformance.com . I just got one and having it installed with the rebuild.

Change it if it's the original one that it.

Ok, I will change the FPD (good or bad). But does this sound like a bad injector to you guys? I mean the running rich, loss of boost, backfiring, rough idle?
