switching oil, conventional to synthetic

During the break in on my engine I used conventional oil. I'd like to switch to synthetic (i run premix). Since the engine has already had conventional, is there anything special I need to do in order to switch to synthetic? (I'm getting a new filter as well)

Thanks.

When I made the switch 3 years ago I just switched it up without doing anything special. You should be fine.

I think it would all depend on the synthetic grade you're going to use. You might want to keep running the "dyno" oil unless you're going to run a OMP adapter to inject straight 2 stroke oil via a separate reservoir. Synthetic oil surely would be great in the crankcase but buildup is an "issue" when it comes to OMP injection.

Thanks for the responses. I will be using Mobil 1 synthetic 10W30 (unless anyone recommends something much better).

Mono, the OMP is disconnected and I run premix so I don't think I'll have an issue there. Thanks for the help though.

40k+ miles using synthetic (Mobil 1) with a stock OMP on a primarily street driven motor before my rebuild for a coolant seal failure. Break-down revealed very little carbon...especially relative to what I've seen pictures of here and elsewhere. Really very little compared to alot of piston motors I've seen. And those that know me would tell you I'm a pertty conservative driver. What I did find at 87k was very little bearing, oil pump or e-shaft wear, and turbos that still don't smoke or have much shaft play at all.
Admittedly anecdotal. And I don't have alot of personal experience with rebuilds. Haven't searched for a while, but I have an open mind and willing to read anything you or the experienced builders here have to document inordinate buildup from modern synthetic.

I personally used to run mobile 1 20w50 but I talked to someone, (this is probably not true) that was telling me mobile one synthetic is not a true synthetic oil. I run Royal Purple 20w40 - this is the perfect weight for my car I feel.

I've been running synthetic, either Mobil 1 or Amsoil, 10x30 and 20w50 since my motor was built in '01, 25k and many track days under it's belt. I don't think it's a big deal.

The standard OMP is running, though I do supplement w/ Protek-R or similar.
