Stupid newbie questions
Hello all, my name is Mike Parsons and i have been lurking here since i bought a 1993 RX7 R1 about 2 months ago. A few questions....
I am in New Orleans, anyone else here from my area?
Drivers side door mirror is loose. The manual is not very helpful in determing how to tighten it, the sketch indicates that the attachment screws are installed from the outside, but i can't find how to get to em. Can anyone shed some light? I removed the door panel and the speaker mount plate and felt all around inside the door and couldn't find anything in there that was obvious...
I was planning to do a silicon vacuum tube job soon, but then i stumbed across an article (Mike Putnams site?) about the incompatibility of silicon hose and engine oil, and a test that was done where a silicon tube was soaked in 240 Deg F oil for 1000 hrs and did not fair well. How long has silicon hose been lasting in this application? Has any longtime user had silicon vac tube fail? After how long?
I know things are not right with turbo control system, i get 8 PSI across the RPM range...
The ABS isnt working, the ABS idiot light stays on and when pushed hard the fronts lock up and stay that way, any one have experience troubleshooting ABS?
Whats the deal with the gooey surface on the plastic dash panels?
Oh the car...
Rotary Performance built street port with 3mm apex seals (about 15K miles)
Racing beat full exhaust, PFSC intercooler and cold air intake, PFSC engine managment piggyback computer (thinking about replacing with Apexi power FC), Greddy turbo timer.
Stock wheels, brakes, clutch, body.
Thanks,
Mike

You can rotate the mirrors themselves to reveal the hiden screws attaching them to the outside of the door.
There are regional sections to search for meet and greet's in your area.
Only do the silicone hose job when you are rebuilding the motor unless you can do it yourself because 90% of the price is labor. You can search for more info on this.
Not sure about your 8psi.
ABS locking up sounds scary! There is a wheels/brakes section to post that question.
Gooey surface on platic? ...sounds like you have a '93.

Thanks for the reply.
I rotate the glass itself to access the screws?
Planning to do the vac tubes myself, i understand what a PITA it is, but i know i can do it and learn a bunch about the car in the process.
The wheels lock when i get on the brakes hard, and unlock when i release the pedal, like a car with no ABS.

for the mirrors, it's the equivalent of folding the mirrors in for other cars, except for ours the whole mirror just rotates up. then you'll see the screws.
no abs. sounds like your abs control unit is malfunctioning. i think that is a pretty pricey piece. my abs light came on when i first got my car (back in 94). the dealer said they had to replace the abs control unit, but it was covered under warranty . another thing you can check is the abs wheel sensors. sometimes these get all gunked up and cause some abs issues. this is what i would be hoping for. i think it would be a lot cheaper. i certainly wouldn't want to have to pay out of my own pocket to replace an abs control unit .....but it's a lot more fun without the abs anyways, right?
hope this helps.
