Sounds like it might be signs of low compression. I'd check it.

It is normal to have low compression on a new motor right? Do I just need to brake in the motor or is this a bigger problem?

Check your brake fluid level. If it is low, the parking brake light will stay on.

with 3mm seals it will take a few thousand miles for them to seal as best as possible so your compression isn't at it's max yet since you are breaking it in. But you should have no problem at all starting it up. Your motor is fine.

Change or clean the spark plugs and see if that fixes it.
I'd point to leaking injectors if it persists after that.
If the engine is flooding it will crank for a long time before starting if ever.

Good luck with that and it's not a stupid car
