stupid boost gauge question

Does anyone have quick easy place to wire an autometer boost gauge to? I assume that the white is a ground and the black goes hot? It was installed but the light does not work. I assume that it has one. Thanks

what i did was "rip" the center consol cover off and and tap into the wires going to the light for the ash tray. ran it down behide the pillar and then up above the steer collum and then through the very corner by you right knee into the area with the wires.

I've heard a better alternative to the ashtray light is to use the headlight retractor switch, since it lights up and is much closer to the A-pillar. Anyone have any experience using that instead?
