stud for downpipe broke, its removed (tool pics)(questions inside)
this has been posted before...thought i share how i fixed it....
broke a downpipe stud....and i needed to remove the other studs to get the downpipe off(its a megan DP, came with the car)
i soaked them over night in PB blaster...then today heated them up and locked two nuts together..and they broke loose....
the broken stud ..i used craftmens stripped bolt socket set(had them for awhile)
they've got me out of trouble before.....used # 3

the black set are for studs, didnt even have to use them...
i ordered new studs and nuts from Ray...but
MY QUESTIONS....
you think i should just change over to bolts?? ...instead of studs & nuts
and for those of you that have changed over...have you seen any down side to it at all??
thanks

the only issue with bolts would be clearance to get it in the hole...know what I mean?
I haven't worked on a twin turbo FD is quite some time so I can comment on the clearance involved.
if you can get SS socket head bolts in...that's what I'd run, but again...will you be able to actually get the bolt in the hole???
just try...whats the worst that can happen...you'll have to use the new studs/nuts from Ray Crowe.

Kento's got it, the clearance on the lower rear is retardedly tight. I can't see an allen head fitting there. Possibly a standard hex head bolt.
What would be the bolt of choice? Hardended or Stainless?

i wonder if stainless would be better??

I went to three turbo specialists to ask for replacement studs-bolts etc and they all told me to use MAZDA OEM ONLY.They said that the nuclear temps of the rotary engine will eat the bolts like cake.
