Question stuck headlight

Aloha guys, Well we got home from a test drive the other night and shut the headlights. Only the right side light got caught on something. After looking I found that the plastic piece next to it had fallen in the way. After I removed this piece they went down normally. Then the right side popped up about 1/4 - 3/4 of an inch. Can't find any info on this in my service manual and searched for a similar problem. Any ideas? Do I need to recalibrate the motor gears? Thanks for the helpful ideas so far. We found alot of little common problems you guys talk about all the time!!!

HaHa I've got everybody stumped. C'mon i can't be the only one. Does anyone have their stock lights and motors if they did a sleek conversion? How much do they cost new?(motors) On the good side we get more air to the engine bay!!

have you tried just manually turning the headlight down till it's flush with the hood again? It should work and basically "reset" how the headlight goes up and down. The manual "****" to readjust the headlight is right behind it, black rubber cover is on it, take that off and it should expose a red ****. Turn that till you get your headlight adjusted, hope this helped.

Remember to disconnect the negative battery cable first.

well I tried this adjustment with the batt disconected. It lowered down to the proper height, but when i attached the batt it just popped rite back up!(that mothaf... it's laughing at me!) Whats the point of the adjuster if it has no effect when the batt is plugged back in? Looking like a great excuse for conversion time!

DAMN SERVER. I just typed this huge fix...now I've got to do it again....

<sigh>

Here goes...

OK...here's what your problem most likely is. You stripped the teeth on the hub on the motor. The force of the motor when it caught whatever it was was strong enough to spin the teeth out. I believe there's an internal position sensor in the motors, so when you try to manually adjust it, it said "Screw you, I'm already in the right spot!" So, kill the bat., remove the cover (2 screws front and back). Pop the bulb and motor wiring off. Remove all the bolts (all 10mm) and watch for the one facing the front of the car under the assembly itself. You'll have to raise the lamp all the way to get to it. Before you are ready to remove it, return the lamp back to it's original position. This is important as is you don't, your positioning will still be off. If you want, you could just hook the motor and bat back up, just ensure that the assembly is still in it's correct mounting position (you can hold the top metal bracket and you won't get caught).

Now, pop off the linkage from the motor's drive hub. I don't remember which position it is, but you may have to slightly adjust the motor to get to that retaining nut (I think 14mm). Return the motor to it's original position if necessary, pop off the linkage, ensure that the lamp is in the full down, and reattach the linkage. Reassemble. You're going to have to play with the assembly to get everything to line up right, but keep in mind that you can do fine up/down alignment with the cover. If your motor is in fact stripped...I happen to have another pass. side motor I can sell ya.

Hope that helps....

Christian
