Streetport causes more smoke?

My car has been recently streetported, car runs great, put out 351whp@15psi secuential turbos, At idle i see that the car exhaust smokes more than before. Is a not a lot of smoke but smokes more. Could it been the tune is too rich? Afr was at 12.0 and my tuner added a bit more fuel but we didn't measure it again. Is this normal?

I have seen large street ports cause some smoking on stock ecus, but never on a car that has been tuned. Are you sure it is fuel smoke or is it oil, if you recently blew your engine then installed a different one you likely damaged the turbos. You really shouldnt be seeing smoke at idle when the car is warmed up.

Also when people do reinstalls they often delete their PCV if it wasnt done before. A lot of times people make the mistake of capping off both nipples on the oil filler neck which results in no ventilation and light smoke at idle and on decel.

Hopefully the port work didnt go into the oil control path, that would cause smoke at idle and other high vacuum situations.

Fuel smoke=black
Oil Smoke=white

My smoke is kinda white- tish.......I didn't blew my engine just rebuilt it. Turbos are pushing good boost. How could i know if the turbos are leaking oil?

not being a builder, i would think white = coolant. You should be able to smell it. blueish would indicate oil. black, too rich.... especially if it smells even more like gas than your average RX7

Plus if the white smoke smells has that gut wrenchingly sweet smell, then its possibly coolant. Does it have white smoke after its warmed up..ie not just the condensation in the morning type thing?

How many miles have you driven since the rebuild? Constantly having to add coolant and the low coolant light is coming on?

if the afr was at 12:1 at idle why did the tuner add more fuel? 12:1 is already a bit on the rich side at idle. also if you don't have a catalytic converter the car will smoke more. to check the turbos you can see if there is any play on the wheels, as well as heavy oil buildup in the intercooler pipes.

Fuel and oil smoke can be a bit hard to tell apart, it's something u more or less learn but is hard to describe. Oil smoke seems to linger around more, fuel smoke will smell like raw fuel. Coolant leaks are white smoke and often u can put your hand up to the exhaust and have water accumulate on your hand.

If your running no cat and less then 12:1 AFRs my guess is its fuel.

it's probably fuel, as stated, you are running a bit rich. No cat would also make this. Burning oil smells really different than regular exhaust, you would know right away.
check your oil levels.

don't worry chances are it's just fuel, don't take it apart just yet.

Would I need an immediate retune if I were to get a street port on an engine that didn't have it before? Main reason I ask is because I was thinking after I get my rebuild, I would do the break-in first before I took it to PFS. So could I do the break-in then take it to PFS?

you can run the car and break it in without getting it retuned. just don't boost on it. if the cruise areas cause lean stumbles u can always add some fuel to the map to help drive-ability a bit. the lean stumbles wont hurt the engine in the cruise area. you should also throw some fuel into the boost areas just to keep them safe so u dont go lean if you accidentally boost, or in case someone steals the car for a joy ride or whatever.

My car has no cat. (i lived in the jungle there are no rules here) AFR of 12.0 was not at idle but full boost pushing 351whp. Before i rebuild, i had to had constantly add coolant and my mechanic told me that the rebuilt was overdue and thats why it was consuming coolant. I still haven't had to refill the coolant after the rebuilt so i doubt that is the cause. probably fuel, and i ask him that and he told me that after a streetport the car smokes a bit more.

What is your a/f under load and wide open throttle? Does it only smoke at idle?

Thumbs down

my car smoked a white fine mist. It wasn't a screen, but a definite white and smelled like straight up gasoline. This would happen only at startup and until the car warmed up or I "revved it out". When I replaced my injector O-Rings and had them cleaned it stopped almost completely.

there is a high likelihood that his idle AFR's need more tuning. in certain lighting the idle smoke can look whitish even when it's really just fuel.

To add to the smoke color detections;

Coolant is white and smells like coolant, too.

Yeah you really can't go off of color coding alone. Especially since a persons perception of colors can differ from one person to the next. Its just something you learn after seeing all the different problems. Its based on color, smell, feel, and weight of the smoke... If it disaspears quickly or lingers. I imagine a street port does smoke more. You're getting more air and fuel in and there would be an increase in overlap as well. Without a cat the car will smoke, especially with a rich idle. You will also smell it if it's rich. Smells like raw fuel. If it's not a ton of smoke i wouldn't worry about it. Though i would check the idle afr so you aren't wasting fuel and adding carbon buildup
