street porting the enigne and 3mm apex seal
im just wondering, is it really worth it to have your engine street ported and getting 3mm apex seal?
cuz this one guy told me that you really dont need to get your engine ported and bigger apex seal.

I intend to get a street port whenever I get a rebuild, I have searched and was actually going to start a thread about the seals today myself.
I hear a lot a talk about using 3mm seals, over 2mm, what are the advantages/disadvantages? I also hear differant names being thrown around... Hurley, OEM Mazda, etc..

There are many posts about apex seals, and a great argument which is the better 2mm or 3mm.
Advantages of the 3mm are if your tuner is not the best for rotary engines. 3mm will give him a small margin of error but they don't make your engine bulletproof. They still brake with detonation like the 2mm. On the other hand many people say that 2mm seals better and less friction=more power.
Different brands makes apex seals, they try different materials, some of them are proven to be stronger than the stock ones.
Personally on my next rebuild i'll go with 3mm one piece ceramic Ianetti's since our tuners in Cyprus sucks. They are proven to be stronger and they are more expensive.

It doesn't seem like some company made one piece seal would have nearly the the same amount of gas seal as the Mazda 3 piece. I have a book with all the different seals that Mazda has had over the years, in all their rotary engines. The one piece seals just didn't seal as well, especially at the corners. The shape of the seal at idle and the shape of the seal at 8000 RPM need to be different. After seeing the rediculous amount of time and developement Mazda spent create their seals, I'm definately sticking with them for my next rebuild.
