strange noise from the engine compartment
Hi,
I've got my FD all geared up for next wek-end's big meet, but now I'm worried, the stupid check engine won't come off (might be from the bad gas since it's from last fall) and when the engine gets warm I hear strange noises, they sound like electronic noises (beep beep) and come from that little black box sitting by the manifold (pic provided)
Has anyone experienced this before or does anyone know what it is... I never noticed it before and it might come from anywhere around that area.
thanks!

don't race, don't need to
Alternator having troubles? You can unbolt the pressure chamber (the little black box in question) and move it around with the engine running. See if the noise really comes from there.
This is just an empty can by the way, so no noises should actually come from it. Nor are there any electronic beeping things in that area (no transducers), so I'm wondering if you are having a metal on metal squeek from the alternator.

Yeah that's why that "electronic" noise is getting me nuts... and I also considered the alternator option but I don't want it to be broken
I'll try the moving that box as you said... and I guess I'll see (or hear)
And why would it be only once the engine gets hot? If it's the alternator

Ya I know we intentionally removed the ridiculous warmup thing... no biggie there I know how to warm my own engine thank you
But the oil pump metering thing scares me
All I can say is I replaced the oil filter before restarting the car, and I came back to dino oil (stupid dealer had put syntech oil in it last year when I was too lazy to do the oil change myself)

I don't even know how to check if mine is bad...
and is it normal to hear the coolant boiling after I shut off the engine...? like the engine temp is fine but I never noticed I could actually hear the coolant boiling

Okay, my roomate opened the wrong coolant seal(the one that says do not open, just besides to right one that says open to fill) and I was afraid he might have screwed something up! We didn't put anything in it though... it's just that I lost like 3/4 of my coolant when I first started my engine because somehow the coolant hose just below the manifold came loose during winter... don't tell me the infamous cats purposely unhooked the hose! :o
