OK, I know this has been posted before, BUT, I I didnt find anything that had all the symptoms mine had. Ok here we go. I just put this motor back in. Its a fresh rebuild with all 9's on the compression. its bone stock , just to pass JCI, then all the mods are going on. Here what its doing. When you first start it, it runs up to about 2500 rpms, or so. and runs kinda rough. then as it warms up, it'll drop down slowly to about 1100 rpms. after that, it surges from about 1100-1400rpms. I tried running the codes, but either you cant run codes on japanese FD's, or there arent any in the computer. I havent checked to see if the TPS is set right, but, today it started acting differently. I had the diagnosis jumper plugged in to check codes, and when i started it for the first time that day, the idle went straight to 800, and ran pretty smooth. as soon as i took it off, the idle went up to the usual 1200 and started surging again. And it will surge until you turn the AC on, OR, you put it in 1st gear with the clutch in. Just pushing the clutch in doesnt work. it has to be in gear. when just sitting, i can hold the rpms at 3K, then it will hold and then drop to about 2700 rpms, and surge there too. Basically it surges all the time. I drove it today for the first time, and slowly driving in first gear, it surges from on power to no power, like i was letting off the gas and then getting back on it again. Sorry for the lengthy post, I was trying to give as much info as I could. I dont know too much about FD's, I've been working FC's for the past 5 years or so and I just bought this FD. any help is appreciated..thanks

 

Adjust the TPS and tell us if that works.

Otherwise the FD does have a 1-2 switch. A switch on the trans tells the ECU if it is in 1st or 2nd gear.

yup. i also think its the tps- because its consistent with two things you said (the rpm oscillating between 1100-1400) and the feel of power and no power.
