You might want to talk to jason at http://www.jt-imports.com/U.S.Atop.htm about a mazdaspeed shiftknob. I got the mazdaspeed one above at rx7.com. I just saw in another thread that mazda wants 130.00 for a new shiftknob! You might want to post a thread in the for sale section about finding a stock shiftknob.

Seriously. The mazdaspeed above weighs less than the stock one, thats about the only difference besides the looks. I personally like the weight of the stock one better.

You notice it in the "solidness" feel of the shift, but I didn't notice the mazdaspeed being noticably lighter. I picked one up from the rx7Store and love it. It's softer leather than stock (feels great) and doesn't quite taper down as small as the stock one so the transition between the shift boot isn't exact.. but it's the only shift **** I'd buy. And I did.

For what its worth.

Definately. It might just be the mazdaspeed shifter I have(carbon fiber), but it weighs almost nothing in my hand. Its hard to describe, you would just have to fell the diference of the two. When I had my mazdaspeed one the shifting just felt "gimpier" . You would just have to experience the two.

Ahh.. sorry.. I was speaking of the leather Mazdaspeed ****... http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?3=37
..didn't realize there was a CF version. The leather one is weighted just like the stock ****.

Yeah when I bought my RX7 it had a plasic one and I was like man that so cheap of mazda to put a plastic shift **** on a car like this. Turns out somebody had put in an integra plastic shift ****, I now have a MOMO plain leather shift **** and I love it, it has the contour for your thumb and feels a lot nicer.

With the standard shifter, it's not really that big of a difference. I switch from the stock **** to a non-weighted Sparco and didn't notice a darn thing.

However, after going to a short shifter, I switched to a Razo weighted CF ****. The difference is much more apparent now.

IMO, a gearknob probably the only part of the car that SHOULD be heavier. Quite a lot of japanese aftermarket gearknobs are extra weighted - the reason being lighter action required to shift (and, *possibly* less wear on the gearbox as a result).

(I use the feed ****)

I don't understand why a heavier **** requires "lighter action to shift" or why it would wear the gearbox any less. I think they weighted it because if its too light it vibrates.

Well, when I had my carbon shift **** it felt like I had to "force" it into gear, as opposed to a heavy shiftknob where you just guide it, if that makes sense.

The one with the 5-spd red reverse gear is from one of the older gen. 7's.
