Stock ECU + MP with Perfect BOOST Control!
Stock ECU + MP with Perfect BOOST Control!
I have to start this with a huge vote of thanks to Damian Dela Huerta ... I got all the info I needed from this thread of his ... https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...astegate+pills
We've been working on this over the last couple of weeks in the Wellington Sunday FD-Kai workshop sessions ..
We decided to manufacture as buying something was looking too expensive down here in NZ for a short term (until Power FC) measure ..
Results are FANTASTIC .. boost is rock solid at .75 bar .. where it's currently set .. transition is much smoother than stock and much much faster .. boost pressure hardly drops at all .. and it sounds heaps better without the cat in there!!
Anyone want's to replicate this I can write you a shopping list of the bits you'll need!
Pics below of how it looks installed and one giving you an idea of how we put it together.
There's some mounting, polishing and general prettying up to be done but getting it working was the important part.
Relevant Mods: Racing Beat Inake, Fujitsabo CatBack, RES Midpipe with small resonator ... and Ball/Spring boost controller!

Shaun or anybody else,
Does Shauns MBC work as well or better than the Hallman device?
Shauns results has caught my attention, and I want to try installing a Hallman device or replicate Shauns setup. I have a stock ECU, with HKS air filters and Apexi N1 currently installed. I want to install my M2 DP, but I am afraid of spikes.

I can't say I've tried the Hallman to comment, but I'm getting identical results to what Damian described .. and total cost was only $38 NZ and a fun afternoon's working under the hood!

Unless I'm missing something...why aren't you suffering from boost creep? No boost controller will prevent it alone, and with the cat gone you should be creeping. Did you port your wastegate?

Some cars dont get boost creep, even with full 3" from the turbo back. Why this is? I dont know, but I know its not a problem for some cars.

Have a friend that had just an intake and downpipe... Slapped on a exhaust and went to 15 on creep... NUTS.
Mines a 93, his a 94. Dunno the difference, but there HAS to be something!
But, you're right... Some cars don't creep. I would just take the precaution anyway... Cheaper than a rebuild!

That's nuts. I know mine was SOLID with intake, efini y-pipe, SMIC, DP, Hi-flow and cat back... But I never got brave enough to go midpipe...

Its just that not all cars will require the wastegate to be ported.
I suspect it has to do with the turbos being able to flow more air than others (assuming the same intake/exhaust setup).
I had huge boost creep problems until I ported the wastegate ALOT. Since then it hasn't been a problem.
I can't imagine being able to control creep with the stock wastegate.
Oh well.

Could there be a small boost leak, preventing the car to get boost creep but still be able to boost to like 10psi. Everything above gets vented through the small boost leak source.
Could that be possible ?
Could that be possible ?
I'm just asking as I was only getting like 10-5-7 boost pattern. Then I installed intake, dp and ECU and now I get 12-8-12 - I think I have a leak somewhere and it must be pretty small to hold up the boost.
One reason why many dont get creep, I recon, is due to the altitude differences.
I've got no creep on an identical setup, except I've got a DP as well. I live in boulder at 5,500 ft. When I go on mtn cruses up to 9,800 ft the boost patern changes dramatically. I think altitude is the most ignored factor when people speak of modding on this forum. Turbo's really do behave differently up here!

And a bigger drop at transition.
