Is the stock battery tray supposed to have a bracket to secure the battery?
I did some searching, but this is the best I could find on the stock battery configuration:
My battery doesn't have a nylon strap or top cover. My concern is will the box keep the battery secure during an autox? Or should I figure something out to secure the battery more?

Yep, if your lucky enough to have all the original parts there is the tray, a nylon strap, side case (in the rectangular hole a piece of clear plastic, the hold down bracket, and then the top cover. None of this is worth taking to the interior bin, as you should go to a smaller sealed battery to use inside the passenger area. I personally wouldn'y want a lead acid batterey in the passenger compartment. Jack

top cover is flimsy and is not meant as a hold down..

Yea, I didn't know this for the longest time either. My FD didn't come with the top or any kind of strap. I always thought it was cheap of Mazda

I'm actually thinking of getting one of the mini battery trays from the group buy and a new optima battery, but I've already dropped over $200 into hoses and gauges this paycheck, so I'll wait until next month for that. Something from autozone or pepboys should do for autox until then i guess.

There are two metal hooked rods with threaded tops and a top bracket that these rods slide through. You use a nut on each to tighten the bracket down against the battery. OEM setup also included a battery cover (that never seems to fit properly BTW).
