the PFDs are the original ones that weigh 13.8lbs. They later made a reinforced version that are heavier, 15.3 I think. If you're going drag, I would use the light weight ones...rotational mass kills

Just for further clarification:

On the strong wheels, the area between the lug holes is bell shaped.

On the weak wheels, the area between the lug holes is square shaped.

Rotational mass kills acceleration, broken wheels kill you. It's a good idea to check for cracks often if using the lighter wheels as they fatigue with hard use.

Sorry to drag up a dead post.

I'm looking to use OEM FD wheels on my Alfa Romeo track car.
I found a set of FD wheels, but they may be an early type. Will the early style really be prone to failure, if just being used with UHP tires? I'm not running R-comps for this event, just ES100 tires, 225/45/16.

Should I only look for the later style wheel then?

Honestly, there are so many options out there today for an inexpensive rim that I would just recommend getting something else. I've seen both types crack. Take a look at some of the Rota wheels. The Subura guys put a beating on those things without issue and they are pretty cheap. Even if you do damage one, you just buy a new one.
