sticking gas guage

OK i'm fustrated in the fact i cannot see what is causing my problem of a gas guage that is not registering. it is either at a 1/4 or 3/4 depending when i add fuel. when key is off it does not move.

any suggestion where to look or do i need a new one? and does anyone have one?

thanks in advance for assistance

I've noticed the float sticking from time to time after auto-xing. Usually, some twisty driving or donuts in an empty parking lot alleviates the sticky float. But, if yours is getting stuck on a regular basis, even after the fuel level has dropped below the "stick" point, I would just replace it with another stock float. Or maybe a used one ...
