steering wheel replacement

trying to replace my steering wheel, but im having the worst luck getting it off, using this link
Steering Wheel Replacement as the guide and im stuck on step #4

4) Directly in the center of the exposed steering wheel "innards" should be a nut in size large. Remove this. Gently tug on the wheel until if comes off. DO NOT HIT THE WHEEL WITH A MALLET! Mine didn't want to come off. If you look closely, you should see the clock ring exposed. The clock ring is a circular item that rotates within the clock ring setting. If you look carefully, you'll notice a tiny little hole slightly above the bolt that held the nut you just removed. I cut a large piece of coat hanger and jammed this into that little hole until a heard a 'click'. Strangely enough, the wheel popped right off after that. I'm not sure what possessed me to do this, but it worked nonetheless. Carefully slide the exposed molex plugs through the back of the steering wheel and remove the wheel.

don't know what the clock ring is or the hole he's talking about is
i think the hole might be the one in this pic

I didn't touch the clock spring when I removed mine (at least not in removing the wheel itself). I used a steering wheel puller and it popped right off.

Just wiggle it left and right up and down, it'll come off.

PB blaster the spline? For mine I hit the steering wheel towards the windshield top bottom side to side, with enough force. Not too hard or you might collapse the steering wheel.

this looks completely different to mine... i took my air bag out and off then loosened the centre nut, just loosened tho didnt take it completely off so i didnt hit myself in the face with a steering wheel and then started to pull , gave it a couple hard pulls without using a mallet or anything and came right off.

I just covered my old wheel with a heavy bath towel and smashed as far out from center with a heavy rubber mallet - came off easy. Same technique (minus the towel) you'd used for a seized wheel.

use a puller. if the wheel starts to bend because its stuck on, hit the center bolt that you tighten with a hammer (lightly). should pop right off.

I hit it with my palms for ward then from the back , and it came out .

but if that doesnt work renting a puller should do the trick . swapping the wheel out isnt anything difficult you could drive to the auto parts store use the puller swap teh wheel and return the puller in the same lot ( if you dont have a second car that is )
