Steering Rack Replacement

Steering Rack Replacement
Did some searching and could not find any answer:
Power steering rack is leaking from the boots (which are worn out and far from "intact") - I assume this means replace the entire rack or is it worth replacing seals? I am certain it is leaking from the rack and not the classic weak line connections on the pump. Thanks for any input.

I have not changed an FD rack but I have on other cars. If getting back on the road soon is important to you, I'd have a replacement rack on hand. Used, low mileage has been good for me. It may turn out that you have an unrebuildable rack, so to handle that possibility you'd need to pull the rack and tear it down just to see if it can be rebuilt.
Another option if you have time is to pull the rack and send it to maval for a manual conversion. That would solve the problem nicely.

Thanks for the input Dave. I'm going to take it out tonight and see what I find.
I think I'll do some soul searching and see if I would truly be happy if it was manual steering. My brother in law has a 328GTS that is manual and man it's tough when barely moving/stopped. I have lots of those situations because it's a third car for me and getting it in and out of the garage dodging the other cars would be a PITA. I'm sure with skinny tires up front it would be nice but I don't have any plans for that.
Mods, you can kill this, between Dave's comment and some other homework I've done I know my options. Thanks.
