Stationed in Germany, brining JDM stateside?
Hey guys, long time member, pretty sure this is my first time posting. (I wanted an FD a while ago, but could't afford it.) Anyway, I'm in the Army and I'm stationed in Germany. My WRX just sold (see below). I'm no stranger to power...Just want a change.
I found a few JDM FD's. One has 46,000 miles 1992. One has 90,000 miles and it's a 94...with blown apex seals of course. The guy with the 92 is asking 9000 USD and the 94 is asking 8500. First off, for JDM vehicles, is that a decent price? And secondly, what exactly has to be done to convert them to USDM standard? JDM is perfectly legal for me to drive stationed in Germany, but i'm not too sure on exactly what has to be done to bring them back state side.
Anyway, sorry about the crappy pictures I should have better ones as of tomorrow, but here's the 92 :
And the 94

Yes, you won't be able to legalize it without paying with your left nut. In the mean time, i suggest looking for a factory turbo first gen and ship that over! 25 year rule is in full affect!!

As everybody else has said, just hold off on purchasing one until you get back (when do you PCS?). Besides, take it from me... it gets REALLY annoying driving one of these cars around when your steering wheel is on the "wrong" side of the car for the country you're in. Sure you get that unique factor, but practicality fails.

And when you're trying to pass somebody, and when you're hitting up a drive through (anything, ATM, Fast Food place, parking garage, etc., etc.), and when you're trying to see behind you/off your left side to take a right hand turn onto a road, and when you're trying to see around other vehicles in traffic. Oh yeah... let's not even get into the fact that you are more likely to get singled out by ******** on the road (cops, douchy middle age *****, etc)
I'm talking from experience, it's *much* more convenient to have a car with the steering wheel on the "correct" side of the car for the country you're in. I've been driving my LHD FD here in the UK for the past year and a half, I honestly prefer to drive my little $150 POS Ford Escort (RHD) around town for this very reason.
I'm not saying that you're wrong or anything... but I think you're missing some of the little annoyances that build up.
