started rebuild...little worried
Bought this reman with 500 miles on it from a respected member on the forums. I got the engine started. I am worried however. I let it idle till operating temp (about 5 minutes or so) and the idle is about 850 but the VAC is 10. It seems fairly smooth however. When I tap the gas and bring it to about 0 psi, I let off and it stumbles a little and goes to about 1100 rpms and 12 vac. I am really hoping this is a vac leak that I am just not finding and not low compression. I have the AWS, EGR and ACV removed.
I have found a few vac lines that have been pinched, but I have fixed them. I don't have a rotary compression tester, so I may just have to use traditional piston. Any thoughts? I feel pretty sick to my stomach right now

I started the car with the compression tube removed...that way I could see the butterflies and make sure they were operating correctly (per Mahjik). I could here it whistling BIG time then. I had the same vac too (10-12) I installed the compression tube and the whistle is down considerably, but vac is still the same. When looking into the TB from the drivers side fender, the whistle was coming from a round port at the bottom ride corner of the inside of the TB....

I have heard that an open intake and VERY open exhaust will exhibit lower vacuum as well. I have a stock intake, 3" DP, gutted stock cat and HKS carb ti. I also have a ported WG...

Okay, took it out last night about 20 minutes around the neighborhood. Didn't go over 25 or out of 2nd. I got it warmed up obviuously. By the end of the drive, I had the car in the driveway idling without the heater/AC or lights on (just the dash lights/parking lights) and had it idling at 1000rpm and vacuum was between 16-18! Now, I adjusted the idle via the screw under the TB. However, after I got it to 1000, I would tap the gas to maybe 1600 and it would come back down, but to about 1200. Am I supposed to be jumping some terminals before I adjust that air screw so that I don't have any electronics trying to work against me like the ISC or TPS? Also, when driving...about 15-20 mph, staying constant on the throttle at about 1500rpm, and it would be bucking or stumbling...what are your thoughts? Weather the idle is 700, 800, 900, 1000 etc...it's always a smooth idle. I don't think I have low compression...oh...BTW, there was quite a bit of dark smoke from the exhaust initially before driving it...not white or blue...smelled like fuel/exhaust....i am sure that there is more smoke on account of no cats...Also, could some of the stumbling be because the fuel is a year old??
