I have Burce Turrentines rebuild video and its pretty comprehensive from what I can tell (unfortunately, its based on an 86 SE I believe) I was going to invest in his R+R video when I go to do it myself. Would you recommend it as a good tutorial along with the factory manual?
Bruce's video is a must have for anyone inexperience (you & me). It's pretty good. A step by step process.
It does not howerver go over the process of putting the engine back in. He basically say install is reverse of removal. He did give some tips though. It still leaves out the fine details. He didn't say that the clutch should go in w/ the engine. The first time we did it, only the flywheel went in. That didn't work out too well.
His rebuild video is pretty good too. It's for the 2nd gen's, but I guess the engines are pretty similar. I would like to do a video, but I want to be more experienced w/ this stuff first. I would love to add something to the RX-7 community and help out fellow owners.
I am thinking about taking apart my old engine. I am not sure if Malloy Mazda would like that though...

mmonaco, I am not having the idle and coolant problems. Maybe something is stuck near your throttle body, keeping the cable pulled somehow. Check that out.
Man, overheating is very bad. How many times have this happened. You're fans aren't coming on? Do you get the coolant light?

Damn. I was thinking that taking it apart and putting it back together isn't that bad. They are gonna take it apart anyways when I send it back...
I just wanna take a look inside and learn more about the engine. Take pics and share, etc. Maybe even try rebuilding it.
I would love to keep it, but I don't have the $1000...

Ok, I think the smoke in the engine bay is from the gasket sealant. Some of it is visible around the DP, turbo manifold, exhaust manifold connections. I guess they are just buring off. There is no more smoke coming from the engine bay though, so that's great.
I am still get smoke in the exhaust though... I guess there is still sealant inside those connections burning off. I hope it will go away in time.

My tachometer has gone wacko!
It reads 2500 RPM when the engine is off. It read 3500 RPM or so when idling.
This happened B4, but went back to norma. Now it's stuck there. FAWK!

Marc,

Hmm.. I'm not the by any means knowledgable .. pretty much say what I did and hope that it helps eliminate some possibilities.. but have you tried turning down the idle with the idle air screw ..by the UIM ??

Weird....
That hissing sound goes and and off sometimes when I'm driving.
My cockpit smeels like gas...
Hope it's not the FDP...
I didn't put it on my list of things to get when I was ordering the engine and parts cuz I didn't know about it then. FAWK!

take off UIM and pressurize fuel system....see if your pulsation dampner is creating a little pool of gas on top of it - located on your primary rail.
when people say they smell gas, this seems to be the source more times than not....

without the solenoid rack its a peice of cake, but i am assuming that you are still running the stock turbo system.

it's just 2 phillups head screws holding it on and a fuel hose of course. be careful not to strip the heads as they are on there pretty good. might want to hit it from the side with some needlenose pliers or something instead.
