Out of curiosity have you been seeing a decrease in oil in the pan? Meaning, are you burning up more than you should be?

Ok found out where the smoke is coming from. It coming from under my downpipe.
I am also having a coolant leak.
There is a hose on the passenger side of the engine bay, sorta under the ABS. It looks like the hose runs into the firewall. Coolant is dripping from it.
This MIGHT be the reason why there is smoke in my engine bay. When the coolant hits the ground smoke/steam comes up...
I'm gonna let the car cool down and go check it out. Hope I get it fixed by tonight.
Sure feels weird driving the car again. I've been driving my bro's 91 Lexus and his steering wheel is super loose. The FD's is pretty stiff. I studder sometimes when driving slow in 1st gear.
I'll update when I have some more news. Hopefully good news.

ok i have the same deal as vudoodoodoo. i put a new reman in and it smoked for a bit but now its ok. But i did something stuipd and didnt fill the resivor up and my new motor got really hot, so i killed it and filled the resivor up and am in the process of burping and finding leaks. But my big problem is that the motor ideals at 2700rpms and gets hot quick, i hope i havent blown a seal, no leaks yet. I have a new koyo and the leaks arent that bad, just a slow drip. But the car shouldnt be close to 2700rpms should it. I must need to adjust my ideal, am i think right. Sorry to break up your thread vudoodoo.

after filling up w/ coolant, keep the filler cap off and see if you see "champaign" bubbles in the coolant.
you shouldnt have any leaks. fix them before anything else.
if you did do any damage, in my experience it wouldnt be a seal...it would have warped the motor.
as for your idle...do you hear it sucking in air? it may make a wistle sound. a lot of people make a mistake putting on the UIM. (usualy something gets stuck inbetween the UIM and LIM.) there is the mount for the throtle cable that could have gotten stuck inbetween, or something like that.
spray around the engine w/ carb cleaner and see if you can determine the "area" of your leak. then go form there. post your findings.
oh and 2700 rpm's...when you start it, as you press the clutch have the trany in gear. this will not allow the motor automaticly raise the rpm when car is cold. or after you start, just give the throtle a little "blip" and this may drop your rpm's

Ok. I think I have a vacuum leak...
I keep hearing a hhhhssss sound somewhere near the UIM and P/S pump... I'm not really sure though. I thought it was the pumps and belts making the noise. Or just normal sound of air being sucked in...
There is still smoke coming from near the DP. It looks like less than B4 though...

Here is some good news. I got that coolant leak taken care of. The hose that goes to the heater core is a pain in the ***!!!! It was leaking cuz the clamp wasn't on the firewall end. It was in the middle!!! WTF!!!
Whoever moved that clamp, I'm gonna kick your ***!!! There is not enough space to stick a pair of pliers in there and move the clamp. I just zip tied that end of the hose. No more leaks. Zip ties save lives.

PM me if you got any questions. I'll try my best to help out.
Me and seven steve were thinking about making a video of the R+R. Bruce Turrentine's video is OK, but leaves out a lot of the little stuff.
We want to make a video for the REALLY INEXPERIENCED. Step by step, nut by nut.
Who wants to donate their FD for this project? Take one for the team!

I like the idea of the video w/you and Steve Vudoodoo....
I have Burce Turrentines rebuild video and its pretty comprehensive from what I can tell (unfortunately, its based on an 86 SE I believe) I was going to invest in his R+R video when I go to do it myself. Would you recommend it as a good tutorial along with the factory manual?

I'd buy the step-by-step video for the beginner engine pullers, if you make it. I have Bruce's R&R video, but could always use more info.

We're just playing w/ the idea. Maybe when we get more experience doing R+R.

OK the squeling is the belt and now i tired what you said and the ideal will not ideal low. When iput it into first gear with the clutch in it will not ideal low, also it still over heating and it is full of coolant. I can blip it or tap the gas and it will go down to about 1500, but then the rmps pull like i had my foot on the gas to about 2800. Why is it doing this?

I still have a major cooling problem cause i took out the thermostat thinking it was bad or i put it in wrong but that was not the case. I am thinking the water pump is not pumping, could this be the problem. Let me say the car died cause of over heating and thats why it has a new motor. SO something major could be wrong. Also the ideal is still bad so please help out on this one. Vudoodoo are you having the same ideal problem?
