SR motorsports airbox--M2 replacement?

Is there any difference between the M2 airbox and the design being sold by SR Motorsports? There is only one picture shown--all you can see is the top. Anyone have this in their car?

I have the RX7 Fashion box (same thing)....it is all metal, not a carbon fiber lid like the more recent M2 box. The bottom is powdercoated and the top lid is brushed aluminum. The intake fits great and is well made. I run it without the top lid on after witnessing the dyno results....

Rynberg,

how much difference did you notice on the dyno?

Did you ever think about getting the Odula hood that has a scoop that goes right to the airbox?

M2 CAI and Fluidyne rad fitment

Rynberg...

I looked at your Mod list and noticed you have both of these. How did they fit together? did you have to drop you rad down. I am trying to install the CAI and it hits the top tube on the Rad. Can I space the CAI up or should I look into dropping the Rad? If I drop what is the best way?

I have noticed some differences between box designs. Some of the metal boxes have an opening on the pass. side toward toward the front. That's why I chose the M2 carbon fiber version, it's fully enclosed on the top and sides.

I don't have the M2 CAI, I have the RX7Fashion/SRM one. It fits fine with my Fluidyne. The PFS intake box needed to be tweaked.

Well, I just spent a while searching and couldn't find it. It was on the order of 7-8 rwhp. I think a lot of that was the dyno environment, on the road, there is probably very little difference. A friend of mine did multiple drag strip runs with the lid on and off and noted no significant difference in trap speed.

When you are on the dyno, you have a big fan blowing cool air into the intake with the lid open. On the road, with the lid open, hot air comes in from the top.

I am also running a RX7 Fashon/Ricks Rotary intake and its basicly the same thing as the M2/SR units. The lids on the newer RX7 Fashon intakes are now also powdercoated mat black making the whole unit mat black (Looks stock to most people).

What about the hole in the SR airbox on the passenger side. Should that be plugged, or does it matter? I don't want to buy a "sealed" box, only to have it draw hot air.

Either way--it must be better than an open element design.

I doubt that there is a measurable performance difference between the two though.

SRM intake

I just blew $600 on the SR motorsports cold air box. I'm going to have to cut on it a little as well as my fan frame for it to fit good.... I should have saved $$$ and picked up a used M2 unit! Pretty rediculous to have to grind on a $600 air intake for a good fit.

Used M2 intakes can be found fairly regularly in the classifieds and remain the best option.

pettit has one similar to the M2 box but it isn't as pretty as the carbon fiber unit.

Yeah, Yeah... This looked like the same thing so I figured it would fit...
I thought pettit only made their open element type now....???
I can make it work just didn't expect this for what I paid.

This is all pettit offers and I read it sucks. Thats why I decided to go with a cold air box...

same situation here, I've also head to grind on the box to get clearance for the fan-frame... Maybe it's because my Koyo radiator?

I have a M2 CF box and a Koyo N-FLO, had to use some plastic spacer to bump the airbox up a few mm, other than that it fits very well.

I'm running the skinny fluidyne. I notched the mounting holes on the fans to slide them more to the drivers side. Helped a little but still going to have to cut on this new part a little for perfect fit.... Def would have bought used if I knew I was going to have to mod-fit.... Oh well.
