Spun bearing replace Oil cooler??

ok so I spun a stationary bearing , and there was shrapnel not shavings in my oil pan . so I'm wondering what should I do ?

I know there is a place you can send the oil coolers to get repaired . but honestly I can buy another one for less .

is there any safe DIY way to flush the oil cooler SAFELY or is this oil cooler scrap metal now ?

Most radiator repair shops should be able to flush and clean your oil cooler. Get out the yellow pages and start calling around. If you don't have any luck there call around to the Ground Based Operations support facilities at your local municipal airports. They should be able to tell you who locally cleans oil coolers too. It shouldn't be terribly expensive. There really isn't anything to repair you just need to make sure that you've removed all the metal contaminates from the oil cooler. Also make sure you clean out your oil cooler lines.

You may be able to get a used one for less, but you should probably get it cleaned also. No telling where it's been.

correct it was , and it was 125 + shipping , but my oil cooler is in good shape so if I can get it flushed out I'd be happy if not . I may either look for a used one or send it their way .

i have heard a lot of stories of people getting there oil coolers cleaned and there was still remaining metal in them. it is cheapest to buy a used cooler from a car without spun bearings.

Mazdatrix does it, listed on their services page:

It happened to me. In my case, the previous owner did some major damage to basically everything under the hood. Had a shop rebuild my engine, they forgot to flush my oil cooler. Since they forgot to check oil cooler, they had to rebuild engine again.

Always replace the coolers after if you find shrapnel in the oil, you will never get all the chips out of them even when flushed.

I've had friends destroy new engines this way from not listening. And even at work when they wiped out 3 New jet engines by using the same cooler that had been sent out and thoroughly flushed each time. that one little chip that works free is the killer. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Yeah, I actually bought another oil cool and flushed it just in case. I took no chances considering my build (new housings and Iannetti ceramic apex seals).
