There is a pretty good article on the V-8 LS-1 powered RX-7.But Duy Le.He goes up against Calvin Wan's RX-7 and a Chevy Camaro SS.I'm going to read through it now.

I actually enjoyed the article, but it didn't mean anything to me. You have two highly modified cars, and a potato, where's the challenge? There is no king of the hill in my book. How can you determine one is better than the other when there is no baseline to compare to?
Aside from the fact they charted out turn speeds and corner times, it was neat to see an RX-7 still being touted as a good platform for fun.
I think they should have had a perfect running condition bone stock FD out there to run as a base line. I think because The Streets of Willow is such a small and tight course that the stock turbos would have been right at home and could yield some nice times.
But where would they find a perfect running condition bone stock FD, does such a thing still exist?

SCC used to be a good mag...until about 2 years ago. Thats when things went down hill. But look on the bright side, at least it isnt Super Street.
As for that article, it would have been a good comparison had both cars been on a spec tire, which IMO should be manditory for ANY automotive comparison that takes handling into account.
I mean, a stock FD on R compound tires would beat an Enzo at any handling competition if the Enzo was on POS MasterCrafts or something similar. That does not mean the FD is a better handling car though.
Beyond that, common sense would say that yes, given all other variables being equal, the LS1 would have won. Same handling potential, same horse power, better torque curve.

"Is dumping over $20,000 worth of performance upgrades on a quirky, rotary-powered sports car a defining act of sheer stupidity? It certainly is if you're looking for a clever financial investment. However, if your only goal is to drive a car that can ignite the fuse on the back of your primitive, endorphin-producing cerebral lobe while out-performing nearly anything on the road or race track, your hard-earned money couldn't be better spent."
seems to me like they like our mazda there? :P

I haven't thought much of them since they disrespected my boy Tim Benton many years ago. I remember the good old days when Turbo and SCC were the best of the best. Hands on rotary rebuilding, rotary powered muscle cars, not all the rice and fluff and filler crap with a 80% being ads like they are now.
It's interesting how they make excuses for the v8 car but god forbid that rotary powerecd car would have been at a disadvantage - they would have bashed it.
If I recall correctly, they went through 2 or 3 rotary motors and never gave full write-ups. Not thousands.
It would be pretty hard to find a perfect running stock car of any kind that is 13-14 years old. Makes me laugh to think of a GM F-body car with 13-14 years under its belt.

i agree that the article writing isn't great. It seems that they pretty much follow a formula to writing a article, and fill it with cliche's hmmmm sounds like rap videos lots of half naked woman, liquor and fast cars
