Given that it is illegal, I don't think you'll get too many responses.

why? thats fully retarted to say anything like that. If I bought a car from someone with 10k miles on it and then after he told me that he changed it to match the motor from 200k to 10k, i would kill you.

Mileage isn't necessarily ment to represent the motor per se. It's a chassis measurement. If you really want accuracy, you need a chronometer for the motor. Just like a boat does.

If you are actually considering tampering with the mileage on an FD, you don't deserve to own one. It would be fine with me if you never, ever sold the car. Unfortunately for everyone, you probably will at some point. Then it's yet another suspect car on the market.

Not planning on adjusting the mileage but with the rapid amounts of salvage title cars...I've noticed that most have inconsistant mileage which brought up this question...

easiest thing to do is to get a salvaged gauge cluster with low miles and just swap them out.

Just buy a new odometer from mazda. Mine crapped out at 65000miles so I had it replaced. I blew the motor around the same time. Now I have 15000miles on the car. Its not like I'm cheating anyone considering the mazda dealer knows the true milage of my car if I was to sell it.

just because you run larger rims doesn't mean anything if you run the proper tire size its the exact same height as stock. what idiot would run 18s with 65 sidewalls?

what if you bought a salvage gauge cluster and needed to correct the mialge to match the chassis... i think that would warrent a adjustment to the odometer

That's perfectly reasonable. But if a person intends to falsely represent the mileage on the chassis to a potential buyer, or if they don't tell the buyer up front that the odometer was "adjusted" to match the motor rather than the chassis, then they are a complete *******.
