Yup, my car is a 1992 JDM market automatic. It hard-cuts at 180kmh.

Due to the taller diff ratio of the automatic cars, mine gets to 180kmh (111mph) without a lot of effort (damn near does it in 3rd gear due to the tall diff gearing..).

But if you're caught going those sorts of speeds in Australia on a public road, you'll be featured in the national news, and have no license any more. You'll go to court, cop a huge fine, lose license and maybe even end up behind bars. All for 111mph. Because our government is that much of a killjoy.

What is the max speed limit in the USA? Europe? I'm pretty sure Australia has the lowest max speed limit (110kmh on public roads)

most US highways get up to 75mph which is 120kmh, generally anything over twice the posted speed limit is a felony and you can go straight to jail.

Check this out then. This was (yesterday?) in Australia. Its all over the news coverage today.

http://tools.themercury.com.au/stori...ional-news.php

It was a first offence, so they won't crush it (they usually do).

Where I live, the fastest legal limit is 110kmh, and if you do 120kmh, you lose your license, and its about a $400-600 fine, and forfeiture of the vehicle. And we have only one racetrack in our state. Its a sorry, patched up, bumpy little excuse of a thing.

I know my FD can do 180kmh to the speed limiter, but the penalties for going over 110kmh are just too severe. I dont want to lose my car..

There are 2-3 same color wire so be sure to cut the right one that is shown in the picture. Mine worked fine after cutting that wire and no more stopping at 180/kmh

Sorry to bump an ancient thread, but what wires do I have to cut for a 1996 FD? The ECU was changed in '96 and I'm worried it will be different than what you guys had to do to your 92-95 fds.

P.S. Max speed limit in canada is 100, totally sucks. Going to try to get my car on the track soon.

so im a bit confused i guess about this, i have a 92 jdm rx7 this is my second FD, my first one i had it at the red line in 5th with the speedo needle berried past 180. now on my current one it first came with an automatic in it, i did my 5 spd swap on it over the winter , placed a 4:30 diff in the rear and with a manual stock ECU from forum member Kenspec. so far iv had the car in 4th gear with the needle way past 180 and suddenly hit a speed cut, car was in 4th right at 7xxx rpm

my question is for you guys is do you think my speedo is just off or do you think i have an actual speed cut somewhere. My first FD was a big problem case and i didnt know much about the car back then so i wouldnt have known if the ECU wires haave been cut or not.

any in site would be great

Well if you hit red line in 5th on your first FD the speed limiter was definitely cut (assuming you are running the stock transmission). For your second FD, I'm not sure... sounds like the limiter is working but I'm not sure if your spedo is wrong or not. You can calculate the speed from the rpm, wheel size, and gear ratios (including diff ratio) so you could try that and see if it matches up with what is reading on the spedo. For reference on my car when I am going 80mph I'm at about 3500rpm in 5th gear. I know the JDM cars run shorter gears than USDM but I'm not sure how that will compare to your car since you changed out the diff.

Anyways I took a look at the ECU yesterday and there are two red and green wires!

Which one do I cut?? I've attached a photo.

Check out this site to check if you spedo is wrong:http://www.powerblocktv.com/resources/

I put in some numbers quickly and it looks like it is wrong, according to that tool you should hit the 111mph limit at 6300 rpm but I didn't know what size tires you were running so I can't be sure.

Yes. It seems the wire colour stays the same for all of the FD3S harnesses. Green with red stripe.
