Speed limiter cut
I have a JDM 2000+ series 8 FD3s. does anyone know which pin in the ecu is the speed limiter? got a device for removing the speed limiter but the manual doesnt say where it is, and also all the rx7 manuals i have downloaded is for the series 6 FDs
do fd's even have a speed limiter??
yep
cuts off the engine at 180km/h, well the jdm speedo only goes up to 180km/h, where as the local ones have 300km/h speedo |
180 km/g thats only 111 mph that cant be right i 140 was my max (afraid to go any further)
i've gone 165 :) but PFC FTW lol
i hate when ppl say FTW i really do...
sorry to sound like a noob, wat does FTW mean?
and yes, its definately 180km/h max.. i've maxed it out and it stops the engine going any further, on a track of course... no hooning around the public roads for me. so does anyone know where the speed limiter wire is located on the ecu? |
I don't know what FTW is as well lol. On the ECU, in the passanger side, there should be a green and white wire I beleive... cut that and your free.
ftw = for the win
Can I control this with FC-Datalogit and PFC? 180 km/h limit is annoying, but I've never reached it (I have JDM import).
i got an apexi rsm, its got a function that allows u to increase the top speed to more than 180km/h. and also shows speed and rpm... pretty useless, but its the cheapest device i can find that gets rid of the speed limit.
but i just gotta find the wire to cut and connect onto the rsm. |
I just cut the limiter wire off the ECU...

Just cut the speed limiter wire off...

Hey guys, well I dont mean to flog a dead horse by re-visiting this issue/thread but I have a JDM 1992 FD. I took her out and tested the top speed and it seemed to top out at 180kph. I have searched the forum and found there is a wire that I can cut by the ecu. There is also the option of having a plug in ecu, I have a PFC (i had this same PFC in my last FD, no speed cut) but I was wondering if the ecu should automatically disarm the 180 cut or if you have to tell it to. I can just cut the wire but wanted to know peoples thoughts on this sensitive issue. I dont want to go cutting wires if I do not need to.

i didnt know that the euro models had speed limiters on them i thought all were drag limited depending on the power of the car. you learn something new every day |

Ok I will cut the wire. I guess I was just wondering if the pfc would eliminate the need to cut it even with the stock settings.
is it bad for the engine or stock turbo's to exseed 180k's? i wouldn't think so since mine's the middle of 4th gear, it just gets to 180 way to fast to top out at that. Also would the needle on my cluster keep going past the 180 mark an break once it gets to the resting pin at 0?
no and no. Unless you are doing it every 5 minutes! the speedo just stops at 180 but the car keeps going. I had my last FD wound almost to redline in fifth gear, dunno how fast that was but it was DAMN fast!!!

Get a Apexi rev/speed gauge you can up the speed cut w/o cutting the wire and at the least you can get a accurate digital reading of your speed or tach. |
