Spec Clutch Problems

anyone had any problems with Spec Stage 3 clutches other than they start to slip prematurely? I was racing a friend of mine and I hit second really hard and part of the clutch (circled in the picture below) snapped in half and spun around in the bell housing, gashing up everything before being ejected through the side of the housing and onto the road. This clutch only had 1500 miles on it and i was only pushing 300whp when this happened. I will take pics of my actual clutch when i remove it

None to date.. I have the 6 puck sprung. 370 whp and about 1200 miles on it. It is a bit noisy but that seems to be getting better w/ break in. G

I also have the sprung 6 puck with no real problems. My only complaint is that the pedal pressure feels like stock but the engagement is harsher, it just feels weird to have that touchy engagement yet soft pedal. I would prefer a stiffer pedal on an aggressive clutch. Part of my complaint could be related to having a light flywheel and relatively low idle on a streetport.

I had the stage 3+ and it sucked ******* ***!!!!! Throw it in a can as they (SPEC) will do "nothing". I bought mine directly from them, had 1/1000th wear, ate my flywheel very bad and pressure plate. 1500 miles and it started slipping bad. I will never use them again due to there customer service. I went with a cheaper act unsprung 6 puck and it has been holding the smame power + great. ACT is my choice for cheeper units. Other than that go multi disk....I have heard the stage 3's and 4's being ok in a few but the 3+ and 4 are garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same issues with the pedal pressure. My clutch has performed flawlessly, even at some 19 psi pulls through 4th gear, so I guess I can't really complain.

Just due to the driveability, I honestly wish I would've went with an ACT--back when I installed this clutch the ACT sprung 6 puck wasn't available.

The SPEC Clutch Disaster!!

Here's the run down... I had my car tuned for spring pressure due to ignition break up problems i'd been trying to resolve, and I put down 291.6 at 7psi... Here's how my SPEC Stage 3 clutch handled it when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. (by the way it had less than 1500 miles on it.

ACT 6 Puck Sprung... i'm going to hopefully get a replacement from SPEC since it's still under warranty but i'm just going to sell it off. It's an obvious manufacturer defect... although the guy i spoke with from SPEC told me that a broken strap is caused by a missed shift.....????? how does that work? somebody please enlighten me LoL

luckily my flywheel was undamaged other than one small nick but nothing that will cause any problem.

Spec clutches are garbage. I've never met someone who was happy with their clutch over the long haul, this includes Rx-7 owners, Camaro, Eclipse, etc

i will never buy spec after what it did in my 240. the diaphragm cover (the blue steel part) split right down the middle... obvious manufacture defect.. they wouldnt take warranty claim.

Guess I'm lucky, I've never had a problem with a Spec clutch.

Like mine too hopefully mine holds up. It has been on since i got the car along with a act light weight flywheel. Rich checked it and said it was still in good shape when he did my rebuild and he said it was a stage 1.
