Howard, I can not comment on how it will hold up on a 600+ setup but I am running this set up and so far been happy. I just wish I had never gone with a light flywheel as low rpm driving is a bitch! I have not had the chance to go to the strip yet but maybe soon.

DO NOT buy a spec clutch!!!!

I regret giving them my money. My spec 4puck sprung clutch drove like crap, made noise, blew up for no reason (broke during normal drivng), and the customer service at spec is horrible. And it only lasted 12k miles.

Here's my thread -

Howard, since they are local to me I went by and talked to them they say the clutch is rated for about 690 lbft of torque, but I dont know anyone that drives a FD that is making that kind of HP with one, but I do know a guy that drives a Civic that runs one that is making mid 500 rwhp that drags his car and he says it a great clutch. I am considering buying one instead of a mulit-disk clutch

weird, I've used this clutch on 2 of my FD's (4 puck also), I also use them on my Subaru, and others cars, never had an issue. Pretty much Spec is the only clutch I will ever use.

I haven't had any problems with mine either and I'm close to 600hp. I run the sprung 6 puck.

What is the problem with the light flywheel in low rpms?

I ran the spec stage 4 on my car with flywheel and wasent that bad. You did have to slip it a bitl more than usual.

sk8world:

you do run the carbon metallic 3+ clutch package?? how is pedal effort? how much hp/tq are you currently running? how long have you run it? what specific flywheel are you using?
do you need to slip it to warm it up before it has full grip?

rizzxx7:

what pressure plate option are you running w the sprung 6 puck? flywheel? how's the pedal pressure, slip and how long have you run it? have you run any other clutches?

Jason:

have you sold any 3+ clutches and if so any feedback? i believe your shop 500 hp ran the stage 3? you also sell ACT: what is your recommendation/s for 500-600 rwhp w driveability. i am considering the exedy twin d core but before i spend the money i do want to cover the options. the hyper single was an excellent clutch but did not have enough grip...

20b3rdgen:

690 ft pounds.... numbers like that stretch spec credibility a tad... (not yours of course). thanks for the help though.

i do think that as we all wake up and add alcohol we will be really looking for more in the way of clutches to match running around on the street at 20+ psi.

let's rev up this thread. i invite all who are in the 500+ rwhp to share their clutch setups please.

I have the stage 4 and the pedal is really soft so you might not like it but I've gotten used to mine, it kinda feels like a stock honda clutch.

the carbon metallic 3+ clutch package??

Yes, I have the carbon metallic 3+

how is pedal effort? not bad

how much hp/tq are you currently running? Low to mid 400whp ( but changes underway)

ow long have you run it? 400-500 miles, basically new...

what specific flywheel are you using? Petit 8.5lb 2 piece. Just bucks sometimes at low rpm parking lot driving and I have to slip the clutch during take off.
do you need to slip it to warm it up before it has full grip?

my friend had this clutch on his zo6 for 10k or so miles and it went bad out of nowhere and started slipping in any gear at even part throttle. It went from fine to that in a weekend.

I had a spec stage 3 in my last RX-7 and also had no issues. I used a M2 lightened flywheel with it and had spec balance it all. It drove great, no noise, easy to daily drive and when you wanted to launch WOW was that there.

Ran 23 psi with a 62-1 and no problems. When it was time to get a new clutch in the vette though just recently I didn't even consider spec with all of the horror stories I had heard and the issue my friend just had was also recent

I'm running the spec stage 3 sprung 6 puck with a RB alum flywheel and the lightened pressure plate option from spec. I've had this setup for 9k miles (flywheel for 60k miles). Granted I'm not making assloads of hp yet, but it's held 19 psi on the BNRs with no problems. I have also drag raced with the clutch and been very happy with it thus far. With my new setup on the horizon, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the clutch can take 25 psi, 550+ rwhp

I will say with this setup the car doesnt enjoy being below 3k rpms and gets very choppy.
