spark plug question
I tracked down some NGK 9s in town, and they are in
I am 99% sure they are in correctly, but they seem to stick out further then I expected. (all my gear turning till my fd has been in V8 & I4)
is this normal?

part B if spark plug stupid question:
if I switched the lower two plug wires, would my car start/run?
I ask cause I am not sure (I am 99% sure I am right) that I got these wires to the right plug. they came out of the distributer (I am assuming the 13b has a distributer) very close together unlike the upper two plugs, which were very easy to know which wires went to what plugs.
thanks in advance

I bought mine at the local checkers auto parts store for under $20 for all 4. you should probably tighten them to spec, but good luck getting a torque in there, espically the front plugs.

NO You do not want to over tighten a spark plug. I don't know the torque spec but you wanna leave it where you could still tighten about another half turn if applying alot of pressure. Sorry, only way I can describe it.

I usually turn the plug with my fingers til i can feel the washer grab, then use a wrench to turn them another 1/4 turn.
Don't forget the anti-seize.
Don't remember off the top of my head the arrangement of the lead coilpacks and corresponding plugs. My guess is that yeah, it won't affect it-but if it were my engine, i'd dig up a manual and determine the right placement without any doubts.
Next time, do the plugs one at a time.

You have three coils. 2 trailing coils and one set of leading. The trailing coils are on the ends. The leading coils are in the middle. When facing the spark plugs, the left most spark plug wire goes to the Front Upper spark plug. The Right most spark plug wire goes to the Rear upper spark plug. The two center coils will be connected to the two lower spark plugs. They are stacked one on top of another. The top one goes to the front lower spark plug, and the bottom one goes to the rear lower spark plug. If you've ever taken off your UIM, then you'll see that it's labeled as such.

What's a spark club?
Actually, if you accidentally switch the leading (bottom) plug wires, nothing bad happens. Remember that the leading plugs fire at the same time...they have to, because they come out of the same coil.
Switch the trailing (top) plug wires, and you'll have problems.

You'll notice that the leading plugs fire simultaneously. Each rotor face actually sees the leading plug fire twice...once to ignite the mixture, and again late in the power stroke.

Easy. The positioning of the leading plug is such that the "extra" firing just occurs late in the power stroke...a so called "waste spark". It's kind of hard to describe verbally, so take a look at this website for a good animation:

You beat me too it. Maybe I'll need to get my fast finger just a little faster
...But don't worry about getting the leading's right...they really do fire at the same time...waste spark
