Sound of RX-7

In what way does the rx-7 sound good? with Catback? downpipe? midpipe? Not fart sound, like a good sound. What catback has the best sound?

thanks,

Sound is subjective. Are you looking for a deep sound?

You can check out some RX-7's from these videos:

http://images.rotarynews.com/videos/SS4/

Probably pointing out an RX-7 that you want to sound like might make it easier for someone to help suggest what parts you'll need.

that is about the loudest setup possible on an FD short of a single turbo thrown in. it will be obnoxiously loud and it will sound like **** i am assuming. i have heard an Apex N1 and N1 Dual...they both sound like ****. so im guessing a GT Spec is not going to sound any better.

ive heard the Racing Beat Dual Tip and GReddy SP....both very nice sounding exhaust systems. also, the M2 Dual Tip shoud sound the same since it is similar in design to the RB Dual.

those three exhaust systems are the only ones you should be looking at if you want your car to sound like a car...not a chainsaw/weedwhacker/lawnmower.

just my .02.

I saw this one Greddy exhaust on rx7.com ... it was called Japanese spec or something. I kind of like the big single tip exhausts for the rx7... would this one sound good because i hear greddy is a very good exhaust company.

I think Greddy is more of a turbo company...anyhow Greddy and Racing Beat are the quietest exhaust, but dont offer as much performance gains as say... the Apexi GT spec and HKS Ti, which are the loudest, but offer the most gains.

I like the Apexi GT...it's loud...it's obnoxious...but it's fast and music to my ears.

Joe couldn't be more right...canister is something like greddy PE.. I personally hate that sound..

I have the greddy SP..although I kinda hate the big 5 inch tip..the sound is nice and reserved.
The racing beats are also very nice.

power gains between different exhaust systems is very questionable. difference in power also depends on all your other mods. im guessing the difference between a RB and Apex GT is at most 5 hp...which is impossible to feel on the butt-dyno.

Sorry JoeD you're wrong. The most annoying and loudest exhast is the HKS Titanium Racing exhasut. The damn thing is 4" DP back!. It completly replaces the cat.

This thing is so god awful loud that XS took if off their car cuz it was tripping off the knock sensor. The thing with the silencer in sounds like my car with the silencer out(hks cf ti hiper, mp, single turbo).

This thing is a beast and you have to get your head examined if you run this thing on the street. (That means you too Rx7 Rage).

I've heard the apexi n1 dual and it sounds like garbage on a single turbo setup(FDOkinawa's car) so he traded me my HKS for it, and that sounds a little better, definitely not as annoying, but just as loud. My old exhaust was a trust(Greddy) exhaust and with a front pipe/mid pipe it was EXTREMELY loud. I replaced it with a JIC bullet and it's got a deep(DEEP) sound to it, and it's quiet at idle, but when you go WOT, it's music to my ears...

The best sounding exhaust is a single turbo with a straight pipe the whole way going into a n1 dual and the wastegate dumping directly into the ground Its so damn loud peoples ears bleed, but scares away the competition. The best exhaust for the street I think is downpipe, highflowcat, racingbeat dual, and if you have single tie the wastegate into the downpipe. Personally I like the sound of a rotary with a straight pipe, but quiet is good too.

It's all subjective. I personally like the way my car sounds. I'm running a DP and the Apexi GT and think it sounds good. Maybe a bit loud at times though. I was sitting next to 2 other FD's who had full exhaust( no cats), and my car was noticebly louder idling.

im pretty sure the 4 inch midpipe+the hks hiper exaust which is also a 4 inch pipe is louder then that is!

Blitz nuspec

m0t03 -
My friend matt has the full nurspec set up on his modded FD with stock twins. (DP, MP, CB) and it sounds kinda crappy(no offense if u read this matt). I think you should have a Borla XR1 silencer welded into your mid-pipe before you install it. That will make it a little less raspy. The blitz it just way too loud and sounds like the exhaust is going through a tin can.

and my opinion of the best sounding exhaust would be a small diameter DP, small diameter midpipe with the XR1 or some other resonator or silencer, and the RB dual catback. (I like the deep quiet sleeper sound and look) Plus it wont ever be high pitched, like all the others. It is not how many heads you turn with your loud exhaust or big spoilers, but how many people u bitch slap on the race track!!!haha.

Ive got a N1 duel w/ a T04S dumping straight to the ground... sounds like a helicopter at idle and a harrier at full throttle.
Its fun,
