Question something new

Everytime, when I turn quick on my 93 FD, my right rear makes this dull knocking sound..."bounk bounk bounk"

This happens only when Im turning quickly on the 90 dgree turn. With Acc or nutral, as long as the speed is there during the turn, the right rear makes that sound. The rear right tire maybe even hopping during the time of the turn...I'm not sure.

I've changed the upper rubber boot bushing on all four suspension, swaybar link, and I've changed the diff. oil.

Any idea from this FD guru?

I'm no drivetrain guru, but I was recently having the same problem with a Mitsubishi Starion, every left turn "wha wha wha" you know. Well I check everything and in turned out to be a bad U-joint on the driveshaft to the diff. You could move the joint all around freely. Check that, and hopefully someone that knows more than I do can chime in.

Ooo...so if the problem is the U-joint, then this has something to do with the *bounK*sound that comes out when i acc. and shift quickly also....(my other problem) lol.... how does the u-shaft should look like?

o come on you noobs! The noise is from your trailing arms. Go get some solid heim joint trailing arms and this will fix your noise problems. It will also help a LOT with your handleing of the car too.

#1 I can tell you right now its not his U joint. Besides, your problem was with a mitsubishi....of course its gonna be different from this cars problem.

Sounds to me like it's your motor mount...I had the same problem before I changed both. Hard lefts only the tranny would hit the tunnel.

See if you can move the engine by applying force on the UIM...just give it a couple jolts by hand and see if it moves a bit.

If it's not the motor mounts, it can be a cracked Power Plant Frame (PPF)...

I was suspecting the PPF too but from what i've read on the japanese rx7 magazine, the problem im having is different from what i should be getting with cracked PPF. As for motor mounts, no movement to the motor when I pushed the UIM....

Could it really be the U-joint?

my has a whiney sound when i accelerate in a turn or change my velocity suddenly. Its occured for about a month now and I probably need to do something about it. I was thinking motor mounts but not sure.

I dont think its the Apex seal. The sound is comming from the rear for sure. somewhere around the Diff. or the suspension area. Im still trying to think what can make that bouncing basket ball sound....something soft is hitting against the right rear side of my car.....

actually now that I think about it I had same problem, with the bouncing sound under car. Its your PPF I think. Check that and see if its cracked somewhere. Mine was just cracked and it was hitting under car.

I decided to change both rear toe-links, since it was stated as common problems to the early FD's on the japanese rx7 magazine...
