So I've read that if you have boost creep, a boost controller won't help you. But isn't that the whole reason of a "boost controller" is to, keyword here, control... the boost? If it doesn't control the boost, wha the hell does it do? (this might sound harsh cause I just found out my secondary turbo is burning oil)

boost creep is caused by your wastegate. if the wastegate is too small for the amount of boost your running, it wont vent enough air and it will keep building boost instead of holding it at a set psi. a controller will control boost one way or another and will get rid of boost spike but has nothing to do with creep...

Ahhh... that makes sense. But isn't that what the blowoff valve is for? (sorry if this is a completely dumb question, I'm just beginning to delve into turbo applications)

no a blow off valve is in line with the turbo to engine the wastegate is basically off the exhaust manifold. the blow off valve opens after you get into boost and let off and enter vacuum this is to prevent air going back into the turbo and putting force on it making it want to spin backwards which = bad especially on smaller turbos.

Boost is controlled on a turbo setup by the wastegate, which passes the excess exhaust gases. A boost controller can regulate the boost level by operating the wastegate at a given duty cycle. At a certain point, the wastegate can no longer bypass enough exhaust gas to maintain the "set" boost level. This is called boost creep.
Boost creep will only occur on these cars with an open intake and full open exhaust -- downpipe, midpipe, and cat-back exhaust. It can be remedied by porting (enlarging) the wastegate opening or by adding a restrictor plate back into the exhaust.
A blow-off valve is for releasing the intake charge at off-throttle -- when the throttle plates close, the pressurized intake charge is slammed backwards to the turbo compressor wheels. To prevent this reversed charge from hitting the compressor wheels, the blow-off valve will vent the charge.

Dude, I love the 'howstuffworks' website. You can type in anyhthing. After learning how clothes are drycleaned, I wash all of my own clothes now. I know you guys don't care but you should still check that website out.

IF YOU HAVE A STOCK SYSTEM, ignore all the wastegate and other crap. If you are having boost creep it is probably because some of your vaccum hoses or soleniods are malfunctioning. Before going through the time and expense of modifying the oem equipment, first check that the stock control systems are functioning correctly.

Oh no, the only problem I'm having is that my secondary turbo is burning oil. I was just wondering about the boost controller cause I came across that post and it seemed odd, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks for all the help though. BLKTOPTRVL, what part of SC are you from?
