Some questions on the stock FD

What are the 3/2 button/indicators by the ashtray?? One indicator is orange, the other is yellow (I believe), the writing is scratched out, so I can't read it. The other buttons I questioning is, the rear defogger, one is blank...and the other one is unknown to me (foglights maybe?????), it kind of looks like this: D=

And does anyone know the type of dome lights we got? If they are 2 ended, how long are they? Or what code bulb is it?

Just some info. when I bought the car I didn't know what to expect and mine weren't working.

These indicators have little bulbs in them that are prone to going bad. You can get a replacement bulb at Radio shack. You have to pull the panel apart (snaps up) and take the indicator, housing and all, out from the back side.
The bulb is set in a little black housing that turns in and out with a flat blade screw driver. Don't lose this booger and don't take it apart in the car.

I think you can get a little 12 volt ($1.99) lamp from Radio shack that has long bare leads already hooked to it. You pull the leads through the little black housing and wrap them around the side slots like the original. Clip off the extra wire. Viola! Insert it back in and put it all back together....fun...Looks like brand spanking new for 2 bucks.

The back light is the exhaust heat light. In my understanding, when the CAT overheats under the passenger seat there is a temp sensor down there that will set this light off....but I am not sure you would see it driving??? Anyway, check for functionality at key on. The light should come on when turning the ignition to 'on".

The front light is the security system. It should light for a few seconds and then blink when the system is enabled. You enable the system by locking the driver door with the key. If this doesn't work, you should make sure all the door and hatch latches are working properly. Both of these systems are covered in the shop manual which you can download online.

If you need a light I can help you get one.

Regards...

Tsmysak1, do you have any specs or part number for the bulb you got from Radio Shack?

The security bulb burned out on mine and I couldn't find a suitable replacement anywhere. The Mazda parts guys replace the whole console security insert, not just the bulb, for $45+.

I can get it later today... The bulb is a perfect replacement and is still working 2 months later...There is one bulb that is close but has really short leads. Don't get that one.. Get the one with long 2 inch leads that can be trimmed to length. They call it a lamp, BTW.

Most radio shacks have a drawer cabinet that is full of electronics. This is a standard stock item. I will try and post a pic or product number after work.

To consolidate the answers, there are three console switches, left one is "fog" or "driving" lights, centre one is headlamp cleaner, right one is rear defroster (heating element).

The two lamps - front one is security (I fixed that lamp and also while I was at it added the LED for my Viper system - both stock and Viper systems arm at the same time when the Viper remote is used to lock the doors - and the lamp flashes red-red-red-yellow-red-red-red-yellow etc.). The rear one is exhaust overheat. In other words, you are damaging the cat - stop it!

Thanks Tsmysak1. I think that the stock security alarm lamp is a T1 bulb rated at 1.4 Watts, 12 to 14 volts.

When I checked Radio Shack, I saw the one you used. It was the right size with long enough leads to fit into the plastic bayonet mount base, but it was only 60 Milliamps – less than half as bright as the old one, and it was only rated at 10,000 hours. The old one blinked for nearly 9 years before it failed.

But a search of electrical supply catalogues and on the Internet failed to find a comparable bulb, so I'll try the Radio Shack bulb.
