Sold the FD tonight.
Sold her today. She drove off with the new owner about an hour ago. I cried. What a great car (this, you guys know). I'll own another one day. Took some final pictures of her a little earlier today.

I'd like you all to welcome the new owner, hopefully he'll see this post on here when he gets home, maybe tomorrow as he'll get in around 1am probably. His name is Matt, and his SN is "deFCon7". SUPER nice guy. I had had many many offers from people wanting to buy the car, but I didn't feel comfortable selling to them (most were very young and getting their parents to buy it for them). So I held out...........held out for that perfect person to buy her. Matt was that guy. A joy to do the transaction with. He was completely understanding when a Mazda tech screwed my car up last week during a compression test (he was supposed to pick it up last week). So, I'd like you all to treat Matt well, he's a smart guy, and I think he'll learn a lot and be able to help the community in the long run.
Matt, thanks again. Please take care of my baby. I'll sorely miss her.

What's coming next for me car wise. Well, I'm gonna wait about 3-4 weeks, and pick up an '05 Subaru Legacy GT. They're really nice, comfortable cars, can hold 4-5 nicely and are actually really good performers. Plus AWD for when I move to Colorado. (The Talon will eventually be sold when I'm done -- IF I ever get done -- fixing it.)
Here's the Legacy GT. 250hp, 250 tq. Basically a slightly de-tuned STi engine, and with a simple "plug-n-play" Access Port, you can add another 30hp. It's no FD, but it's a great compromise for what I'm wanting right now.

I hadn't had any issues with the car (except passing emissions, which in '06 wouldn't be an issue in the state), so it wasn't any "car problem" thing why I sold. I just want one car at this point in my life. My life is complex enough without having to worry about 2 of everything in regards to cars. I will have one again. Hopefully when I move out west and get settled in, I'll find a nice shell for an LS1 swap.

BUT IM NOT! I am leaving it with a friend here and flying up a few times a year to drive it. No one else deserves to touch my car

Wow, Mark! I'm so sorry to hear that you parted with your baby... The worst part is watching it drive away from you with someone else driving. First we lose you as a local FD owner up here, and now as an FD owner in general!
Hope you join the ranks as an owner again very soon!
THANK YOU for being so **** about who you sold it to though (esp. such a nice R)- that's the only responsible way to go about letting one go, I think. You have great judgement, and Matt sounds like he'll do the car justice. Congrats to you Matt, and welcome to the beautiful world of FD ownership!
Good luck to you with the big move out west Mark, and please continue to keep in touch!!

thats a pretty dumb thing to say.....if homeboy feels he needs to sell his car to make things easier for him, more power to him, i know it sucks, but sometimes you gotta give **** up that you dont wanna give up.....and to fly all the way up from jamaica to drive a car.....thats pretty dumb to me....

But your comments really don't count...
Hey everybody.
Well, as Mark mentioned I am the new owner of his R1 and as of last night the car is sitting right outside my apartment window in Rockville, MD under a car cover with a heavy duty steel cable lock on it. I am extremely **** about keeping my cars protected and well maintained, and now that I have a such a beautiful car that was so well kept previously, I will keep that going as much as humanly possible.
Mark was an absolute pleasure to work with so I feel an obligation now to keep his track record as an owner going. As a little background on my history with cars, I actually drag race a '91 Eclipse that my best friend and I rescued from certain death at a Junk Yard. The car has 215,000 on the body, and had grendaded the tranny and had torn through all the rings in the block. Since 2001, both my friend and I have done every bit of work on the car on our own and have replaced every major mechanical part. It now has a fully built/forged motor, lightened valvetrain for revving to 9k+, ball bearing 60-1 turbo and all the supporting mods for the power. At one point last summer, the car was a bare shell with no motor, accessories, interior, fuel tank, fuel lines, wheels, brakes, suspension or anything else. We had stripped it to the bare shell to replace everything ground up. It fired up on the first try. Here is the DSM Registry page that shows everything we've done: http://www.dsmregistry.com/detail.php?carid=791
As of this winter, I got a baseline tune of 325 hp at all four wheels at 17 psi on pump gas. This race season the car should see 25 psi on pump and 30-32 on race. I love my DSM with all my heart and it has taught me everything I know about being a meticulous, understanding and patient owner. I tell you all this because it's been this experience that has taught me what I think I need to know in owning a machine like the RX-7. I know it will get buggy as I mod it, and I understand how much it takes to keep it maintained and running right. I am willing to do all this work for the car and I really am looking forward to learning this new platform.
I understand how much an FD is in terms of being a labor of love, so I will treat it with the same reverence I do my other car. Since it refuses to get above 60 degrees here and it's supposed to rain through the middle of the week, I'll likely be able to get the car washed, waxed, detailed and get some pics of it next weekend.
Mark, thanks again for everything, and I'll keep everyone here updated.
edit: I bought it for $14k by the way to those who remain curious.
