Mark was an absolute pleasure to work with so I feel an obligation now to keep his track record as an owner going. As a little background on my history with cars, I actually drag race a '91 Eclipse that my best friend and I rescued from certain death at a Junk Yard. The car has 215,000 on the body, and had grendaded the tranny and had torn through all the rings in the block. Since 2001, both my friend and I have done every bit of work on the car on our own and have replaced every major mechanical part. It now has a fully built/forged motor, lightened valvetrain for revving to 9k+, ball bearing 60-1 turbo and all the supporting mods for the power. At one point last summer, the car was a bare shell with no motor, accessories, interior, fuel tank, fuel lines, wheels, brakes, suspension or anything else. We had stripped it to the bare shell to replace everything ground up. It fired up on the first try. Here is the DSM Registry page that shows everything we've done: http://www.dsmregistry.com/detail.php?carid=791
As of this winter, I got a baseline tune of 325 hp at all four wheels at 17 psi on pump gas. This race season the car should see 25 psi on pump and 30-32 on race. I love my DSM with all my heart and it has taught me everything I know about being a meticulous, understanding and patient owner. I tell you all this because it's been this experience that has taught me what I think I need to know in owning a machine like the RX-7. I know it will get buggy as I mod it, and I understand how much it takes to keep it maintained and running right. I am willing to do all this work for the car and I really am looking forward to learning this new platform.
I understand how much an FD is in terms of being a labor of love, so I will treat it with the same reverence I do my other car. Since it refuses to get above 60 degrees here and it's supposed to rain through the middle of the week, I'll likely be able to get the car washed, waxed, detailed and get some pics of it next weekend.
Mark, thanks again for everything, and I'll keep everyone here updated.
edit: I bought it for $14k by the way to those who remain curious.

Wow great to see a post like this. I am getting ready to put mine on the market and it is very tough. I have had mine for over 6 years now and it has been the best car......well putting about $13,000 into it in that time helped....but the emotions it still stirs for me are priceless. I am taking into GTgarage (?) next to pineapple racing next week to get it into shape, it has been sitting in my garage for 2 years now only driven on occasion around the block. I just can't justify keeping it anymore. I posted 2 years ago that I was going to sell it and procrastinated this long lol
