So... who in SoCal can actually tune an RX7 on a dyno?

After reading through muliple threads, I haven't found a shop in SoCal that anyone has been happy with. Right now I have newly rebuilt non-seq turbos, downpipe, cold-air intake, and an innercooler of some type on the way. So I'm thinking I need to upgrade / replace my ECU now. But after reading everyone's comments, I have no idea who to take my car to and have it tuned on a dyno correctly.

I have read that SR Motorsports and XS Eng. is not the place to go to. Who does that leave?

if you have a power fc take it to XS-engineering. That is about the best place for dyno tuning in the country. Do not use mail order maps as they are bullshit. Just set up an appointment with XS and have them dyno tune your car.

i agree with 1fook on part of that

mail order maps are 100% PURE HORSE ****! anyone who tells ya different is the horse who would prefer you pay for his fecal tuning when he doesnt even know what your cars AFR's are.

you are better off doing it yourself with a wideband and the datalogit...only one way to do things right ya know.

Ya gotta do it....

if your car is fully modified then you should only trust yourself with the car.

that's provided you know what you are doing. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do it yourself when tuning. tuning is not like installing an intake or exhaust...One mistake could mean a costly rebuild. Artguy, I am curious, where did you learn how to do your tuning?

I don't have the first clue about tuning the car myself, and I would rather not find out the hard way.

Is the problem mail order maps, or the shop? Pokeing around a little bit more, it seems like quite a few people, including artguy, have had problems with XS. I've read enough scary stuff to not go there. But so far I haven't heard of an alternative yet.

Anyone?

let's put it this way. do you have a power fc? If you do name another shop that is willing to dyno tune your car other than XS. when I had my car dynoed there, before the car was put on the dyno, the technicians inspected the car thoroughly to make sure that everything was perfect before the car hit the dyno. I was happy with the results. The car runs very very smooth now that it is dyno tuned. The partial throttle (hardest part to actually tune) has been done very well, and the peak horsepower was good as well.

if you do decide to go with XS, talk to eric, he is really cool and knows a lot about FD's. I think the problem people have had with XS is that they have been dealing with the wrong people, but if you talk to eric then it should be all good, he will take care of you

I haven't bought an ECU yet. It was sort of depending on the shop I went to. The first part for me was finding a dependable shop, and then go from there.

Or is that crazy talk?

actually that's a very good idea. if you get power fc, XS is the only place that can dyno tune it properly. If you go with haltech or electromotive you can go with a lot of different shops.
