I had the same problem. If you looked under the car it looked like Exxon Valdeze. When stopped at a light little puffs of smoke would start to come from under the hood and smell awful. Turned out to be my second turbo was leaking oil. I would have sworn it was the oil pan by looking under the car, though.

The turbo oil line bolts tend to go loose. Get her up on jackstands and inspect the turbo area with a flashlight. A downpipe makes it easier to see. Hope it's not a rear seal, but with the amount of smoke/smell you have, it's probably a turbo oil control line. A rear main seal would just drip on the ground and smell alot less.
