So many choices for a rebuild.... HELP!

Ok, so it feels like I've spent every waking moment at work the last week researching WHO to get a motor from. I've learned alot on here and on the builders' sites but one place I can't find any info on is mazdarx7motors.com. Can anyone give me some personal feedback from experience with them? I HAD it down to basically one choice. I was gonna go with gotham, but came across them and now I'd like some info on em if anybody has some. The cost is a little less, enough to make me think. Plus shipping to me and pick up of mine is free. Just makes me wonder what kinda quality I'd be getting. Worth spending the extra $500 or so for Gotham? Any advice from someone who's worked with mazdarx7motors would be appreciated since I'm a moron and can't find a damn thing about them.

i have dealt with Gotham... they are honest... and they do good work.

ok... you say the cost is a little less. do you mean gotham is 500 less than mazdarx7motors.com?

are you gonna go stock port... or something FUN? if you are gonna build one... get it ported!

no experience with the "mazdarx7motors.com" guys. where are they out of?

big will

$500 more is worth the craftmanship and support, Go with Gotham.

They also give away hats and T's!

You are comparing a preassembled/remanufactured block (flat rate price) to a shop that will rebuild your core with upgrade options. If you want to stay in that price range then compare with Malloy Mazda as shiiping is price inclusive and a seperate charge with the race shops.

Two excellent shops to check out prices and options online are Rotorsportsracing and Mazdatrix. Other good shops to consider are Pettit and Gotham but do your own research since it's ultimately up to you anyhow.

You are also getting a new reman from Gotham...If you go with them and get it ported, they actually pop open the new reman and port it...your engine just goes to a 1k core charge...That's if you haven't screwed up your housings.

the reman comes with:
All Engine Seals
New Rotor and Stationary Gear Bearings
New Engine Gaskets
New Rotor Housings
New Water Pump
New Rotor Housing Oil Injectors

an you can view prices here. GOTHAM

If you don't provide a core then you will have to pay the core charge. This is what I understand.

If you are looking for a stock reman the cheapest is Malloy Mazda at $1950.

I don't want just a stock reman. Def gotta get port work done. Mazdarx7engines offers it, at a few hundred less than Gotham. So far im inclined towards paying that extra amount to go with someone more well known and proven. Haven't heard of anyone who used a mazdarx7motor, let alone who took one to the track.

GoRacer and Jason-
I think I'll research Malloy too.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

its that much and you have to send them your engine

and also cover the shipping for their engine to you and your engine to them. It ends up being 2200 then you gotta buy the gasket set another 100 some dollars. It aint cheap and no port and you have no idea what weird used parts might be in there. Ive heard skored E shaft, used apex seals (in the past, used engine bearings! etc...I wouldnt go for it

Usually when an engine comes from a reputable engine builder it will last...like Gotham, Pineapple, Pettit, etc...When you hear of one blowing up early its usually becasue of bad tuning...Good thing is that with gotham is that you get 12000 mile 12month warrant...and I am sure pineapple has a similar warranty...Just be sure wherever you get it form have it tuned properly before you get on it.

Anyone had any exp. with a motor from Mr rx-7 tt (Chris)? We've been pm'ing and he seems to know his sh*t, (but I can't tell a trailing plug from my **** so im a rookie at this whole thing). Sounds like his price is very good. I'll not mention that part to leave him a little privacy, unless he says its ok. I'd like to know how his work has turned out for others. He'll get a reman from Mazda, take it apart and spec it, streetport (4 options), polish, oil/water mods, new housings, seals, springs/gaskets. Been doing it for over 20 yrs now. Anyone have any feedback to provide. I'd just like some references. Thanks!

I highly recommend finding a local rotary shop. Have them do the R&R AND the rebuild. That way if something goes wrong(i.e.: oil leak, coolant seal failure, bad compression) you have someone to hold responsible to fix it and make it right.

If you buy a motor for $2000-4500 and then have someone else install it for $1400-2000 and the motor IS bad. You're screwed. You have to pay $1400-2000 again to the guy who installed it and then try to get the motor builder to accept responsibility and send you a new motor...

(yeah, good luck)

If I had to do it all over again, I'd do it that way.
