So I drove the FD to a track meet....

Hadn't had my car out for several weeks due to shitty weather, yesterday was nice so I took it to my son's track meet. About mid way thru the meet I returned to my car to get some stuff and saw a crowd of high school kids clustered around it, with a Japanese kid (obviously one of the schools' photographers) just going bat-****, taking pictures left and right, etc. As I came walking up all these guys were like, "Nice car, man!" (oddly enough, several Black guys were just nodding and commenting favorably), but this Japanese kid was just almost FREAKING OUT. I started talking to him and he just starts in with this running dialog of the FD's stats, "Oh man! Twin turbo rotary, 255 hp, 0 - 60 in 5 seconds..." and on and on and ON. He went on to ask me dozens of questions and tell me it was his 'dream car' and asked if I would ever want to sell it and if I did how much, so I told him $40K was the price I would start to consider selling it, which further freaked him out...lol. I let him take pics of the engine bay and interior and all that...seemed to make his day. We talked some more and I told him to keep his dream alive and he would get one some day. He was a really cool guy, and very respectful.

Anyway, it was just pretty cool to see there is still such enthusiasm for the car.

That's awesome! I still consider it to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

I had a balding guy in his 50's or 60's approach me about my car once. What I thought of it, how he always liked the look of them, he was thinking about buying.

People say that a 15 year old Mazda doesn't get attention, I call shenanigans.

That's always great. Same thing happened to me a few months ago.
Went to a import car meet, with my buddy's son. Didn't get out of the car
before a crowd was standing next to it.
Lol, I was 25 years older than anyone there!!

Every time I take the car out people ask about it, thats why we drive 'em. Even at the track where there are alot of high dollar cars and race cars, people have stories about rotary powered cars on the track and the history of the RX-7. The reputation of the Rotary powered 7 is well known.

i love when i get people like that it makes my day, of course i let them ask questions because when i was young i would only hope if i saw a 7 the guy owning it would be the same. i still think its great that even little kids today look at our cars and think is so amazing i makes me smile every time.

A 29yr old female friend of mine has several times offered to trade her new Mercedes for my FD.... I laughed it off at first, but it turns out she isn't joking, she really wants the FD. To her it's sexy and stylish.

I love to watch people check out the FD with that "wtf is it?" look on their face. I'll never get rid of the stock '93 badges...That particular Mazda badge was only around for a few years, and not too many people recognize it, so most people are instantly trippin' on the thing.

I live pretty close to Laguna Seca and Pebble Beach and there are a ton of exotic cars around (especially this time of year). I think that may throw people off even more...They're so ready for it to be Italian or something, that when I tell them it's a Mazda from the early '90's...

I live in a small city where there are just not that many nice cars. So every time I take the 7 out, at least one person yells at me that it's a nice car.

Just last night I was in a turning lane and a guy in his early 20's stopped behind me, backed up, went in the lane beside me and just sat there with wide eyes looking the car over. It actually started creeping me out lol.

I don't always like the attention it gets though. Sometimes I get people who act like idiots around me.

Anywho...yeah it's nice to have a car that people go ape-sh*t over sometimes. As stated above that's why we drive them. Our own exotics. Keep it clean man!

Yeah the FD is really an eye catcher, i believe moreso because people dont know what it is.

Maybe some of them really like the car but i believe most of the time they stare because they havent seen anything like it.

Usually when i tell people its just a mazda rx7, they go "o nice" and thats that. There were some cases where people asked me if i would sell it, how much i got mine for, can i trade it for their car etc etc lol.

I remember i was sitting at a light before hitting the highway and a kid with a civic SI asked me he would trade his car for my car in a heartbeat.

My town is pretty quiet and i love when theres a group of people, most like the younger crowd just hanging out on the corner or in front of their house, ill whine down the rpm's in gear before i turn a corner, just so they can stare and hear the noise lol.

One of the reasons why i could never sell this car.

It'll be best if two cute asian girls (I am asian) came up to u and said nice car and if they can ride in it =).

Happened to me once but I rejected them because I am taken =).

lol....okay, that came out a bit weird. Two things about 'the Black guys'...first of all this was a big meet with some larger cities involved and there were a lot of Black guys, unusual for this part of America. (In my town, there are only two Black families, for example). Secondly, I have this perception that most Black guys that age (16 - 19) are not in to Japanese sports cars, preferring cars like BMW and Mercedes, Cadillac, etc., based on what I see them drive. Obviously I was mistaken as the boys looking at my car that I talked to briefly thought it was cool.
