oh yeah...you must have the special edition FD with the 3.40 gearing.

Umm........I can ONLY assume that you went into 5th subliminally. 4th gear at 170mph is just NOT possible. At least not with the gear rations availble to the general public here.......

Ok lets think about this for a sec. Racing Beat's FD hit 242mph.
Now, did they have a 6th gear or did they have a REALLY tall diff ratio, and was this differential custom made or is it available somewhere?

I think the new Tall ratio is made by, 'um... DP racing? It's a 2.10. I think!

I've done 148mph on front straight at Heartland Park Topeka 2.3mile course. Never had enough ***** to bring it any hotter into the switchback first turn big wall!!! Never had enough ***** to bring it over 132 on hiway.

What does everyone expect when a question like this gets posted? It is bound to have some B.S. postings. I would shocked if there wasn't more than one.

Aside from the B.S., couldn't you bump the rev limiter up (especially on a modded race engine)? 9500 RPM in 5th would get you close to 242 MPH right?

150 MPH when the car was completely stock. It was still accelerating but I didn't have the ***** to go faster.

For you New Yorkers, it happened on the Long Island Expressway at 2 AM.

HIGHLY unlikely. im guessin they had a pretty high redline, about 9500ish as you stated, combined with a 2.72 rear end will give you close to 240. that is strictly from calculations though. you gotta take drag into consideration. drag at 240 is much much more than 150 for example, so they probably needed even taller rear end than a 2.72.

I got my 300zx up to 150mph, then the computer cut it off. I haven't got on it in the FD yet because of the guy that killed himself in the CYM R1 FD when he was going 150+mph. I've heard there was not much left of the car. For me, I'm going to make sure I drop the car down a bit(coilovers) and put an adjustable downforce wing on it. I have a friend(won't mention his name) that did 187 in his FD. I will be happy with 170 myself....lol

Some useful information from Jimlab

Here's the breakdown for the FD with stock tires (P225/50-16), manual transmission, 4.10:1 differential, and 8,000 rpm redline (Keep in mind that these are gearing limited speeds only, with no calculation for wind resistance or other factors...)

1st gear (3.483:1) - 41.4 mph
2nd gear (2.015:1) - 71.6
3rd gear (1.391:1) - 103.7
4th gear (1.000:1) - 144.3
5th gear (0.719:1) - 200.7

Moving up to P275/40-17s, which is probably the most common choice for an upgraded rear tire, you get the following:

1st gear - 42.8 mph
2nd - 73.9
3rd - 107.1
4th - 149.0
5th - 207.2

And my car with the same tire, the Tremec T56 6-speed, and 9,000 rpm redline:

1st gear (2.660:1) - 63.0 mph
2nd gear (1.780:1) - 94.1
3rd gear (1.300:1) - 128.9
4th gear (1.000:1) - 167.6
5th gear (0.740:1) - 226.5
6th gear (0.500:1) - 335.2

Which is why this was necessary...

The only problem with these quotes is you are not adding in the DragCoeifcicny[SP?] any ways I know that the Rx7 is pretty aerodynamic but its no where perfect I'm sorry to hurt your feelings but it doesn't have enough power to push it that fast in 5th gear. With out a Highly Modified engine I doubt you will be able to get past 190mph if that...

Fastest I hit in an FD was 163mph faster in a MKIII supra was 160+still goin no more spedo =]
fastest in FC 120 with slipping clutch.
fastest in Ford Taurus SHO 137 ran out of road...
Fastest ever 630mph Or at least so I was told was somewhere around 600+.....

I've hit 155 once, then let off for the slow winding surve at the end. What I love about a small town is I know all the cops and troopers, not that they would let me off doing that fast, but 80 after coasting down seems to the limit Nice guys. But on the same stretch of road, I atleast redline 4th gear everytime I get my FD out just to burn off the HKS racing plugs

Well, if you would actually read his post, you would notice that Mr. jimlab prefaced his post with this "(Keep in mind that these are gearing limited speeds only, with no calculation for wind resistance or other factors...)"

So there is no problem with these quotes and you didn't hurt anyones feelings. And what in the **** were you in that went 600+ mph....

I was in a LearJet........ And in the thread it doesn't state how fast you were going in a landbased vehicle it just says fastest you ever been. =]

i dont think he ment he went 600+ just that tht was the record. but yeah i wanna know what went that fast. oh yeah i got up to 145 on 215-60-16. what ever that means. i heard because of my tire size 145 is not the actual speed i was going. i know ive got suv tires on i dont think i should be going past 100mph on those tires even though i contantly do it. ill be getting my bfg kdw in spring. oh yeah my friend and i got to about 170 in his supra last night then got pulled over. thank god he got clocked when he was slowing down 84mph instead of 170 gezz. oh yeah and that thing had more to go to, stable and steady also.

My guess would be right around the 170ish mark... give or take 3mph depends on the road and the windcondiditons.

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking speed in gear, not counting drag, etc.

Anyway they do it, they would need a crap load of HP.

170 in 4th?

when I take mine to redline or 8k rpms I am at about 140 or 142 on speedo but on radar actual speed probably less. I think I saw a post a while ago in reference to rpms and speed in relation to gears and I do not recall 4th going to 170 even at 9k rpms. You must be mistaken - whats up? Never been over 160 and probably never will unless I start racing and have great tires and suspension.

Wow! Again!

Ok, you totally lost me with the 4th gear comment. Sounds like BS. I actually did 155 and the only thing rock solid was the cracks in the road.

I think a stock one would do close to 160 give or take. With CB, DP and air box it is possible to do 170.

I know about running out of road and/or *****. At 155 I kind ran out of both. The road got rough and when I slowed the warped brake rotors became pronounced! I'll bet there would not be much left if a tire goes flat at these speeds.

Flybye 155 on bad tires? Is that what put the Ex in front of GF Just kidding.

I took a highway sweeper once at 145 and it was very sketchy, I had stock 225's at the time.

Now mine seems fine up to about 130, by 140 you can tell your movin. To hit 160+ I would have to try I5! I don't know though, any fart of breeze would likely take you *** over heals at that speed.

actually, i to back up Dan Putnam...i just took my '98 RX-7 Type RS for a spin and i hit 198.52 MPH in fourth gear. mind you, my FD is equipped with a Stage 4 Turbo Kit, Fully Customized Race Tranny, Stage 3 Weight Reduction, and every single other modification possible other than Racing Modification. i also have custom 2.50 final drive gears, and i have the auto set at 25.

i hit 198.52 in 4th gear bouncin off the rev limiter. when i switched to 5th i hit 239.11, but a big curve was comin up. good thing i have Race Brakes and Super Soft tires, or else my FD would be totaled now!
