Snow drivin'

I have a nearly stock 95 with summer Z's on it (Potenzas). I don't drive much, but when it snows and I need wheels I usually get a ride from my friend with a subaru. But I got an invite to a dinner party with this corporate heavyweight, and it's always good to know these people. More or less I had to go, and I had to drive myself. The roads had been plowed, so it wasn't really too bad.

. . . Until I got to the road his house was on. I spent most of the time in first and second and the rest in neutral riding the handbrake. There were two SUV's that had bailed into a ditch around a slight turn, and tow trucks and road flares were all over the place. . . not a good sign.

I finally made it to his driveway, and he had one of those deals with the motorized gate and callbox. But the gate was open, which was good. As I turned into the driveway - at 1mph - all traction went to hell and the car just started to slide slowly towards the call box. brakes did nothing, though the call box went down hard and slowed the car down.

To my great delight, there was absolutely no damage to the FD. By pushing the car and by using an umbrella to move the gas pedal in reverse, I managed to get the car back on the driveway. I slid it down and out of harm's way.

But the greeting was a bit awkward. "Hey, nice to meet you. I just knocked over your call box." In a twist of fate, he had just had a new gate system installed and was about to remove that "old" call box. I guess I did him a favor.

His cook happened to be a big fan of FD's and helped me push it out onto the road when it was time to leave. I managed to make it back without a scratch.

Revelation: I need a daily driver. . . But that will have to wait until the big signing bonus in May. Until then. . . . NO SNOW DRIVING.

That's why I usually call my buddy with the subaru. But that was out of the question this time since he wasn't invited.

Yeah when I moved up to NJ, I did a 180 on a street just getting out of 1st

Then the daily driver came along
But when I plan to mod the daily driver, I'll need a daily driver for the daily summer driver

Back in FL now, but it will be a while before I get back up to NJ

I woulda borrowed that car and left it with a case of beer in the back seat in return. It's priceless to keep the FD out of snow.

Snow driving sucks, but it can be done with proper drivers and a cautious driver.

Funny you mention it. I'm actually moving to Tampa in a few months. Of course, I still plan on buying a daily driver to punt around town. . .
