Smoked New Clutch?

Just got done (50 miles) installing an ACT organic clutch disc, ACT throw-out bearing and stock pressure plate. Drove the car around for a day and two, and the difference was amazing. Car would jump as soon as the gear was engaged, and would hardly ever roll back with the clutch pedal in.

Now it feels as if the clutch is breaking in beacuse the car seems slower off the line and has begun to roll when in neutral alot more.

Smoked or breaking in period?

PS. Never raced anyone or took it passed 3k.

Maybe the stock PP wasn't in good shape, heat spots etc..

Well, it was new. Is this normal or am I over reacting? The clutch isnt that bad, its just it seems to have lost its quick engage.

Did you resurface the flywheel?

Unless it slips while engaged under power, it is probably fine. I am sure the feel changes during break-in a bit, but I wouldn't worry about it until the break-in is complete. I think my Centerforce instructions suggested a break-in of 500 miles with no hard launches or shifts (don't slip or engage it under heavy throttle).

have you adjusted the pedal height? That needs to be done every time aftera clutch job. And if incorrectly adjusted it will burn the clutch up if it is engaging part way( loosening clamping force.)

Also you need to make sure the clutch hydraulic system is bled well. It will cause some issues if not. You should not ever feel resistance when the clutch is pushed in and trying to roll the car. That would make the clutch a pointless item if it did not seperate from the flywheel. It should feel/roll the same from the time you install it till the day/s it is going out.

Break in is just to let the components seat together. You may need to readjust the pedal height, But i haven't ever had one change once it was installed and adjusted correctly.

Thanks for the advice. I will check to see how the pedal height sits and whether it needs adjusting.

Im guessing that the clutch is just taking a seat as it breaks in, but the quickness off hte light was so impressive once I picked the car up(almost stalled a couple of times). Now its still good however that surge foward seems to have disipated a little. Also its taking less pedal engagement to put it in gear.

Shouldn't the car be free to roll whenever in neutral or whenever the clutch pedal is in?? If your car doesnt roll back on a hill when u have the clutch in, then something is wrong and the clutch isn't fully disengaging the flywheel.

You might want to try looking thru the inspection hole on the bottom of th etranny. Look up and see if the clutch "Wedge Collar" is still locking the throwout bearing into the pressure plate. If the collar was damaged when the tranny was being installed( one or more of the hooked teeth bent) it may cause wierd clutch issues with disingagment. (only pulling on a portion of the PP)

Exactly my thoughts,, if this is true that it's been dragging sinse the install you may have smoked the disc/pressure plate and flywheel. Check the slave cylinder and snap ring as BigIs. said to do. Otherwise it will probably need to be replaced once again.
