Smoke/smell coming from FD

I was wondering if it's normal for my FD to smoke slightly and have stinky smell. I have a downpipe and a high-flow cat. I also use 15w50 synthetic with MMO in the gas tank.

I also want to know this. It's been cold here in st.louis last couple of weeks. Every time i start my car in the morning it smokes for less then a minute and then completely stops.

Then also, after like it has been siting, for 5,6 hours, Again it smokes for less then a minute. I don't know if it's normal or not. It's cold here like 45-55 degrees. And the smoke is kind of silver and it smells a little on fuel.

Silver smoke. Wow
Soon, some of the female FD owners will be emitting pink smoke from their tailpipe

First off, there is HUMIDITY. The humidty within the exaust is heated and you begin to see it coming out the back. Second is the unburned fuel. Cold start = extra rich mixture. The purpose of the precat was to vaporize much of this unburned fuel, but since you got no precat, the unburned fuel MUST go somewhere. The maincat doesn't get hot enough at cold start to vaporize it, and out the tailpipe the gas goes.

Now, if the smoke smells like coolant, then that is a different story.....

So as long as it does NOT smell like coolant, then yep.

What happens when it's cold outside, and you let out a hot breath of air? You see white smoke, don't you?

Sorry, I don't know too many details. I've just been told that my car 'smoked'. Both times it was a minute or so after I started my car. However, the smell just smells like something is burning, not a sweet smell...is that normal?

Yea, my car would smoke a little on start up, in the mornings. It would smoke for just about 15 seconds and smells like unburned fuel. I've heard that its normal for most FD's. just make sure that it doesnt smell sweet or you might have to do a rebuild, something i plan on not doing on my car for another 2 years.

Unless it smells like burning oil. If the smoke has a blue-ish tint and smells like oil burning, then it's probably your turbos.
