Question Smoke from engine bay

There is some smoke coming from my engine. I'm pretty sure its an oil leak that is dripping and burning off the downpipe. What is on that side of the engine that would leak oil onto the downpipe? Oil metering pump? ....... any help would be great?

Check the turbo oil return lines. They tend to leak over time. Usually you only need to replace the washers. If so, the washer are about $2-3 a piece from Malloy Mazda.

I talk to....

I just talked to a guy here that specializes in FCs and FDs and he's gonna take a look at it for free and tell me what I need to do. He thinks its a turbo feed line.....later thanks for the help.

yea your first place to look would be the oil return lines. I have found mine to be loose on two occasions. But if that doesnt solve the smoke coming from the turbo area, your turbos might be leaking oil. I know mine are right now. I get a small amount of smoke at startup, and when I come home at night , pop the hood and park under my flood light I can see smoke coming from the turbo area. I'm pretty sure that my turbos are going, given the fact that they have 125k miles on them now.

Do these washer replacement require me to pull the turbos totally out?

I now too have this problem. I'm leakin' oil from where the downpipe meets the turbos. Anyone have any ideas?

could it be a seal between the engine and the transmission?. i just fixed it on my car. sometimes there was a smoke.. if it's the seal's then you have to take the transmission of the car and replace them. because it can cause a much oil leak.

If you have the stock rubber coupling between the y-pipe and the IC crossover pipe, then also check to make sure the clamps are snug. If one of them is loose (especially the bottom one), then oil will be pushed out of the cracks during boost. You will also notice oil on your y-pipe see pic.

Not quite sure why you would be leaking oil from that place. More than likely it is dripping down from somewhere above? How many miles do you have on your turbos? My friend has 103k on his, and was just informed that his turbos were going- friend said that the turbos still felt strong though. With my high mile turbos, I know that they are on their way out as well, but the feel strong as hell still. Depsite that, I'm getting really tired of the oil leaking and smoking though.

You might want to pull off the pipe coming from your turbo, to your ic, and check how much oil has collected in the pipe. If its a little, youare probably ok, if there are puddles, then your turbos are getting tired. But dont forget to first check those oil return lines first.

I had smoke coming out of my engine bay today, after racing a supra MK IV TT. (going from 80mph and up) and yes I spanked him real good twice. He kept up with my 4thgr but i guess i can run in faster speed on my 4th rather than his. Because I knoticed him shifting while i was still going on 4thgr. and when He shifts up, I would just jump out about 2cars length with and by the time I shift to the 5thgr hes about 2-3cars behind, getting hit with victory hazard.

Anyways after parking my FD in my garage smoke was coming out from the back side of the motor. Seemed like it was comming from UIM or even lower.....what could that be? It was smoking for 3mins or so...

(sorry to highjack your thread with little bit of Kill story but I didnt want to create another thread of "smoke coming out of my engine bay".

ya man I dont know what the problem could be but its not comin' from the return lines. It leaking out of the exhaust side of the turbos where the downpipe hooks up. Right around the gaskets.

Thumbs up Milage on the turbo......

I have low milage on them ... about 97000k. I'll check the Y-pipe becuase I've had problems with the IC piping coming loose. I'll get back......

Smoke

Check where Jonski said, the connection between the Y pipe and the upper intercooler tube. After installing my dowpipe, I was driving and got a sudden cloud of smoke from the engine bay. It took some looking but I guess I didnt tighten the coupler enough and oil had been forced out and onto the downpipe. I guess oil builds up in these pipes over time and with the coupler loose, it let the oil out and onto the downpipe. Tighten the connection and no problems since.
