Smoke coming from engine bay
Smoke coming from engine bay
Hi all
does anyone know what this white smoke coming from the engine bay may be? Or is it bad? Seems to be most noticeable on cold start up.
Here's a video of it. Very faint smoke

thanks in advance

Does it smell sweet, then its coolant.
Does it smell like burning oil? You might have a leak around the turbo
Does it smell like exhaust? You might have an exhaust leak near the manifold/turbo/downpipe

Another option is to get a fluid transfer pump ($8 at harbor freight I think) and some cheap gas station cigars. You plug up your exhaust with the output hose and put a lit cigar into the pump intake hose. It may take a few pumps to get it filled up, but the nice heavy smoke from the cigar will be readily apparent without you having to make a bunch of noise out heat things up.
The best part is that it’s cheap! I did this to find a vacuum leak and it took 5 minutes.
Another video I saw was to use the outlet of a shop vac plugged into your exhaust and then spraying every exhaust joint with soapy water to find the leak
