on thursday I noticed a burning oil smell when driving. I popped my hood and found a white smoke coming from the center of the engine bay in the back near firewall.

It was from under the UIM. The smell is of almost a burning plastic smell, I am not good on smoke odors, but I know it is not coolant.

I had an oil leak at the intercooler to y-pipe hose before, but there was no oil visible there this time. It seems to be directly under the UIM this time.

IS it possible it could be a bad FPD? or what else should I suspect and look for? This occurrs when car I start the car and let it just idle even.

 

Sounds like it cold be your wiring harness about to go up in flames. You probably have a bare wire that is grounding out.

Its either that or your fuel system is leaking and about to catch on fire. Either way you are going to have to rip in there to find out who the culprit is.

 

I started searching around the car. I found smoke dumping from the main cat. It seems the cat is melting and the smoke is traveling up the exhaust channel, the venting from the engine bay. It came out from the passenger side rtear wheel today also when the wind picked up.

Does this make sense of the almostr plastic burning smell?
