well, i have a Fmic and i would perfer that any day over a SMic... i really dont like them.. they heat soak a lot and the only to prevent that is to get a vented hood that might help.. but they sit right on top of the radiator and heat travels upward right onto the intercooler... with the fmic, it never heatsoaks and looks a lot better... also, if the pipes heatsoak, they cool down fast when you start moving,... so does a smic but takes much longer to cool the entire core than one pipe... my opinion, i dont like any of the smic's and would never install one on my car... and the increased lag is a bunch of bs... its alway's posted by guy's with smic's or people that have never had a fmic... now pressure drop is another thing but any intercooler has it... it depends on the core...
This topic is only outdone by the "Single vs Twins" cagematch. If you would have titled this thread "SMIC vs FMIC vs VMIC" then there would have been maximum flameage in here-maybe woulda topped the 5-page mark!
Hey, those of us who cant afford either need some entertainment! The search button be damned!!

I prefer SMIC because of the thief factor. If you see an FD on the road that has a FMIC you KNOW it is full of goodies... and so do the thieves
I have a PFS SMIC & it cools the air just fine. The difference in heat between the pipes (before and after the IC) are night and day.

the bigger the intercooler the more lag you will have. But the cooler the air will be.
If you look around pettit/M2/ASP has medium intercoolers that have ducts so they dont block the air from the radiator. with the front mount its harder for me cause i live in a hot-climate place & i need that A/C so i wont be using a front mount in the first place. it all depends on what you are doing with the car.

IMO its the best of both worlds. you get a larger than stock IC plus its not blocking NE thing (it think?)
