SMIC vs. FMIC

I have a few questions concerning wether or not I should go with a FMIC or a quality SMIC. Here goes...

1) Is there a huge difference in intake temps between a FMIC and SMIC?

2) If I get a FMIC, am I going to increase my chances of overheating by not allowing enough air to my radiator?

3) Is there a huge performance gain over a FMIC vs a quality SMIC?

4) Is there a certain cut-off point for the amount of boost I can run on an upgraded SMIC? As in, are there boost levels where an SMIC can become ineffecient?

What yeilds the best benefits? I want to be able to drive my car whenever I like, and I'd like a FMIC, but I'm really **** about keeping it as cool as possible, am I going to lose some of my cooling by puting an Intercooler in front of my radiator?

Thanks in advance.
-Kyle

Kyle,

This topic has been debating in INSANE amounts, your best bet would to not get on everyones bad side by asking more questions about a insanely covered area

Search for FMIC vs SMIC, and you will find tons of info!

Good luck!

LOL, just kidding man, had to do it since you took offense to being nicely asked to use the search function, thats all. Anyways, I dont need to answer any of your questions because I am sure by now you did a search and found too much info you can imagine. Just remember, front mounts look alot cooler man!!! Later.

If you only drag race your car, the FMIC is the way to go, if not get a good SMIC and don't worry about the overheating issues.

I open-track my FD Rx7 and have a GReddy Type 24 V-spec FMIC with Koyo Rad.

Sweet, my first flame  I think the rest of you are slacking, at this rate I'll never get broken in.

Oh, and I couldn't care less about the 'look' of a frontmount. Function>Form.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Comon guys, take it easy on him!

LET ME DOIT!!

GODDAM NEWBIE, Search!

Newbie ----> <---- ApneaBlue

No worries dude, it's all in good fun...This comes up quite often that's why these guys get so tweaked out that they have to answer the same questions over and over. Just when you think you have an original problem or question, you find out it was covered about two years ago...exhaust the search function, lots of good info here. Enjoy!

FMIC is better... If you have a Koyo or Fluidyne dont worry about over heatin, seriously, and as stated above anyone who knows anything about turbo charged cars who sees your FMIC is gonna poke their shorts...!

You are the exception then, FMIC cars usually overheat after a couple of laps and VIR and have to come and cool down, and that is with an upgraded radiator.

I know it gets hot in VA and it for sure gets hot in MN, but I have never once even come close to overheating doing any sort of driving with the Greddy FMIC/Koyo combo...

Nope, RTS3GEN here on the forum also open tracks his car with an FMIC. However, he does have the Scoot hood but he doesn't have any temp problems:

I know a lot of people that race Rx-7s and none of them use front mounts, and for good reason. It's a nice rice option though and works better at the strip, where you might have a good chance of impressing somebody by pushing the gas pedal down all the way. Flame me please lol.

If you can afford it, go v-mount. It's a great system. Tom

I remember when I was a newbie (probably still am) and I thought all the veterans were being jerks...after being on the forum for almost two years I understand why....tmiked, read the entire post of OneBadRx7 (the same guy you called an *******) and you will notice that right after he told the newbie to search he said he was just kidding...

Instead of me telling you to search, I will tell you to READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU ACCUSE ANYONE OF ANYTHING ON THE FORUM
